Actually, it was not loud. It's when people put the crossbars in backwards that they make noise. I drove with the OEM rack on for over a year.
And if the Front Runner rack is making noise, "your friends" need to adjust the wind deflector on the front of the rack. It's all in the installation instructions.
With that said, ALL roof racks make a certain amount of noise, but neither of the two I've mentioned make excessive noise ........... not by any stretch of your imagination.
Oh, and the Front Runner is not a one piece roof rack.
Ok, we can just act like I don't know what I am talking about then and agree to disagree. It's not like I haven't owned two FJC's and had both Baja Rack and a Gobi on them and my experience with multiple vehicles and racks may differ from yours. We are all sensitive to different sounds and frequencies and some things bothers us more than others. Simply put, the blunt shape of the leading edge on the Frontrunner rack creates more drag and disruption to the air flowing over it than most other racks on the market. To some degree all racks need a wind deflector, especially if you like to use your sun roof in conjunction with a full length rack. The flimsy little under mount deflector provided with the Frontrunner rack is a joke which is why most purchase the full on wind fairing.
The Frontrunner is a platform style rack that you assemble and that then sits atop the side rails, the platform is one unit once assembled, it is not modular like the Prinsu or other similar racks.
