This is going to be fun :-)

I just picked up a new S&W .460 Magnum XVR. The motivation was primarily to have something with me in the back country that could stop about any large animal threat. But I have to admit; just being able to play with this hand howitzer is going to be a blast to say the least. :wings:

Here's a picture showing how it dwarfs my old trusty S&W .357.

Crykies!! :Wow1:

Yepper, if shooting the Corbon 200 gr ammo, the muzzle velocity is 2300 fps. This round shoots flat out to 200 yds...amazing for a handgun.

It can also shoot hardcast 390 gr for more solid knock down power.

The cool thing is, it will also shoot .454 Casull and 45 long Colt ammo.

I may be sitting on the ground crying after I pull the trigger the first time though. :sombrero:

I predict sometime soon a doctor will be asking you why you have a hole in the top of your head shaped like the front sight...

:p

Yeah, but if the doctor is experienced he/she will know it's from a hivis front sight of a .460. :sombrero:

Thanks.

No deuce and a half but I did buy a little red wagon to pull it around.

Acutualy I have a Galco leather holster inbound to cart this around.

Too large to carry on your hip so it's a sholder holster that carries across your torso.

The cool thing is, you don't even have to shoot it. Just pull it out and show the bear and he runs off to find easier prey.

I'll post back up in a couple weeks after I get a chance to take it to the range and sight it in.

Well, I'll either post up my experience or you'll read about me on the news. :xxrotflma

Now there's a man with experience.

I expect it to be pretty rude. Not a plinker for fun. My plan for this is to sight it in, practice a couple times a year to stay proficient and load it up for serious back country protection knowing it will get the job done if needed.:sombrero:

I have a 4" 629 just for packing while fishing Alaska streams. Loaded with 300gr hard cast bullets its about all I can handle to shoot 20 practice rounds every once in a while before getting a sore hand and forearm. Can't even imagine what horse of a recoil this animal of yours will produce! What a monster!

I got a buddy that took the exact opposite approach to hiking safety...

We were at a gun show and I see him at the next table putting down money for one of those stupid little Jennings .22s.

I said, "Dan, what in the world are you going to do with that thing?"

He say's, "Carry it in the woods in case we see a bear."

And I laughed. "Dan, you shoot a bear with that and he ain't even gonna notice."

Dan say's, "I ain't gonna shoot the bear, I'm gonna shoot you in the foot."

Some friend I've got...

Ha! I read this last night and almost fell out my chair laughing.

I am usually out alone with just my fury companion Roxy (Giant Schnauzer). I shared your story with her and she didn't think it was funny at all. She just gave me a dirty look and walked away without even a snicker.

Oh well, at least I thought it was funny.

my dive instructor told my sister and i that two essentials when diving were a camera and a knife. use the knife to stab your buddy and swim to a safe distance, then use the camera to record the whole thing and win a pullitzer!!! :snorkel:

one thing that will REALLY help with the recoil on that are the grips from the s&w 500mag. i highly reccommend them.
