This would make someone a great "Expedition" - exploration vehicle

You should read Mike Hickox's thread on his earthroamer jeep - lots of quality issues with the tent support mechanism.

The 180 fold over design to the rear puts a lot of stress on the structure - the folding over the front design of Ursa Minor's J180 seems much better.

Any 180 degree opening top has way more tent than a 30 degree design. So lots more fabric to get wet and to have to dry some how.

I saw a YouTube video where a guy went so far as to make the top of his Earthroamer open like a J30 with a similar tent material. Came out really nice.
For the cost of this unit, I'd have gone back to Earthroamer before doing that. Just my personal thought, but once the 180* opening is removed, and all the extra space lost, there isn't enough advantage to make the additional cost of the unit worth while. Like Dan wrote, with a bit of work he has almost the same amenities in the J-30.
Engineered correctly the 180* opening "shouldn't" be an issue. But if the tent leaking, and stress issue wasn't resolved, that's a lot of money to buy someone's problem.

A rain fly for any of these units would be a good option. Would be cool to have even for tents like the Magiolina (sp?), so that the windows could be kept open a bit for ventilation.
I was looking into doing this for the EVC, before I got the bird brained idea to sell it. Still miss that rig.

My favorite Jeep JKU conversion is the Gazell - here is a thread on expo about it: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/157728-Gazell-a-pop-up-camper-for-Jeep-JKU

Adds a little length but makes the interior much more useful.
