Thoughts on 2015 F-150

Hey guys, whats everyone's thoughts on the 2015 F-150?

I didn't think that much about it at first and have been focused on getting a Taco or T4R for smaller size but then I saw a Lariat FX4 with a little lift on it and it looked awesome. Parts are pretty easily interchangeable, a few different engine options, and its 800lbs lighter from the aluminum body panels.

I think it was Camburg racing that put some Raptor suspension underneath it and WOW. It looks like a Super Duty, Raptor and Tundra. Pic is on their IG.

Obviously, its not the perfect offroad/overland/whatever truck but it will def get the job done.

Please, If you're just gonna tell me how Ford sucks, don't bother commenting, my ford has over 260,000 miles on it and its still running strong.

It's up to 700 lbs lighter, not 800, but still significant.

I have a 2015 XLT as a rental car right now. I like it! It has the column shifter so the center console is huge, with an extra big cubby where the stick style gear shift normally goes on the higher end models. Interior is very nice for such being on one of the lower end models.

The sport shifting mode changes the transmission mapping for more performance, and the button layout on the center dash is more intuitive than the 2014.

I don't like the shorter side mirrors as much as the last generation, but overall it's a very nice truck. Power-locking tailgate is very cool feature too.

If I was in the half ton market the Ford would be my first choice. Funny thing is I consider myself a chevy guy but I daily drive a Ram.

Speaking from experience (former 2010 Raptor SVT owner)...

The F150 will go most anywhere as comfortably and reliably as most any other vehicle except for the size (length, width) and approach/departure/breakover angles when compared to shorter, narrower vehicles with axles closer to the front and back (less overhang).

If you want a Ford F150 get one and tell us how you couldn't navigate obstacles. They'll be few and far between.

I used to take my Raptor out with Jeep friends and except for only being able to run one side's tires in the Jeep trails (and barely squeezing through Steele pass in DV), it was always a great ride. And it could do things Jeepers can only dream of.

If you actually need to put weight in the bed, the F150 would be my choice any day. Have owned both current gen Tacoma ('08) and 2 f150s ('10 & '14). I prefer the F150 in every way.

Thanks for the comments guys! Im not too worried about departure and approach angles as I don't really do anything that extreme. When I go out camping I usually am in Anza Borrego or somewhere near the beach so I would never rock crawl or anything like that. My current F-150 is pretty nice....I followed Jeeps and Broncos through a pretty intense trail one time and kept up with them the whole time. Anyways, I'm going to try to test drive one, again.

If you're already happy with your current truck, maybe you could wait a year and a half (or two, realistically) for the next F-150 Raptor. I mean the 2015 is nice, but not Raptor nice.

I have thought of that also. But its time for a new truck. I've had my current truck since I was 16. Bought it for 6k from my grandpa who gave me a nice discount obviously.

I promise you I WILL own a raptor. Just not now. I could afford one now, but, I'd be back to living like I did in college. I've gotten quite used to my current lifestyle!

It would be my choice if I were in the market. Better gas mileage, power, towing, load carrying than a tacoma. Plus, you can easily install a mid travel kit like the one you mentioned from Camburg if you want more performance. Get the V8 btw, I wouldn't trust the turbos in the desert dust.

Oh, I'm also glad on the 2015 they FINALLY put in the ability to see all the tire pressures on the driver's info screen. Would have been nice on my truck...

Big50- Thats a good call. Does the dust really mess with the turbos? I looked at both engines and I honestly don't care. I would enjoy better gas mileage but I really only drive about 20 miles per day total for my commute... and the I've always thought twin turbos and superchargers are pretty cool but I guess it wears down the engine and will fail quicker than a normal engine right?

Here's another question- Right now my truck is the extended cab with the 6 1/2 foot bed. Great size bed. Fits everything I need and fits my surfboard perfectly and it fits my long board when I put it in at an angle. I was on the build site and I chose the 4 door super crew with the 6 1/2 foot bed and it looks akwardly long. Does anyone agree? I could opt for the 5 1/2 foot bed but then I cant even fit in it and I plan on making a sleeping platform similar to the one I have in my current truck. Then I start do wonder if I really need the super cab when the extended cab would most likely work just fine.

Real world problems am I right?

I would get the longer bed. One foot of difference will not make a big difference when driving the truck but it certainly would when hauling items in it...

I live in AZ, Dust is not an issue with the turbos. if you get an aftermarket intake, just don't go cheap. No amount of dust has been an issue for me for the 25k miles I put my 150 through, and I'm still on stock intake. Get the Ecoboost over the V8, you will love the performance I promise you. I've owned a 2011 5.0 prior and there is just no comparison. I know quite a few guys who have early Ecos that just broke the 200k mile marker, at they still DD & off-road their trucks like they just got em. it's all in how you take care of it over the years.

I have the SCREW 5.5 bed. I couldn't think of getting a 6.5 as I then wouldn't be able to fit it in my garage. but that's all subjective based on my own needs. I have absolutely no problem packing everything for 2 people and 3 dogs in this truck, and it's still comfortable with room to spare. I picked the ICON stage 4 kit about a year ago and never had an issue. my suspension since is primo and comfortable off-road at any reasonable speed you can et away with. probably the best mod I made aside from the RTT I just picked up.

Thanks for your input. My garage goes to my gf's Escape and is also my "workshop" if you will. I have a parking spot in the garage at work but that shouldn't be a problem. Ever have any problems or inconveniences with the shorter bed in regards to fitting anything in it and not being able to put the tail gate up? i.e. plywood, kayaks, etc.

I'm on the F150online forum and some guys with the EB from 2010ish have complaints that the MPG is very low and is about equal to what the guys with the V8 engines are getting. Any input on this?
