time lapse movie

interesting.. at 0:40.. I wonder how he got that sunset + clouds + milky way to show in the same shot? I assume it was composite done from several separate timelapse shots?

Looks like HDR photos to me. Basically more than one photo taken at different settings to get low and high lights. Also looks like he's doing macro with regular shots. Needless to say awesome work!

"how was it done?"

I imagine that it's an automated combination of exposure bracketing and time lapse shooting. The CHDK software (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK) lets you create a script to do these functions with inexpensive Canon point and shoot models, so I assume there are programs for expensive DSLRs that do the same.

I agree on the nice work. Very cool.

It also looks like what I have seen other time lapse photographers do with a changing perspective. At least with the one I read about he had the camera mounted on a servo controlled rail system that moved the camera between shots.

For some reason I don't think I'm going to be able to pull that off. :sombrero:

It was also a recent National Geographic video of the day selection.

I think the glow that looks like a sunset is actually the glow of city lights off in the distance. The same glow shows up in his Aurora video but it's isolated to the corner of the frame in a number of the shots.

Edit: In the above video, at 00:53 you can actually see the city lights pop through the base of illuminated the clouds.
