Timing belt change-out

I've done six of these on my and friend's trucks, all at just over 100K, and every one of them looked almost new when I took it off. I wouldn't do it 'til 90K at least, if not more. One friend is at 140K and we took the upper belt cover off to look at it, and it still looked fine.

Just because the belt "looked fine" isn't a good reason to postpone service-
There are other components to be concerned about.
Most likely the water pump seal (older version had a groove for FIPG) will fail before the actual belt would every break. Also every thing that has a bearing in such as the idlers could seize at any time.

I would also consider age of belt in addition to mileage.
6 years or 90K is a good general guideline to follow.

I did mine at 95K. The belt "looked" OK but my water pump was not! It had a slow leak that had left red "crusty" stuff all over everything. I didn't even realize it was leaking until I tore into it, to change the Timing Belt. Glad I did it when I did! I did it myself and bought the parts from Toyota of Dallas. I replaced the Timing belt, water pump, T-stat, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, the tensioner, all new fan belts and radiator hoses, and factory Toyota antifreeze. I purchased it all for around 450 shipped to my door.
