Tire Chains for Generation 1 Tundra?

FJR Colorado

Please explain.

With an IFS vehicle, there is very limited space between the tire and upper control arm. In the case of the Tundra, there isn't all that much room when you go from full lock to full lock in either direction. There just isn't much room for chains. And if the chains break apart, they can do all kinds of damage including banging up the UCA, tearing up an ABS brake harness, bashing up rubber boots on the axle, etc.

Rears are no problem in this regard. Solid axle. Lots of clearance. You may need to remove the mud flaps.

Refer to Owner's Manual.

I wasn't clear enough. What do I need to modify on the vehicle to make chains fit on the front?

New rims with sufficient offset, or I guess you can use spacers too. The latter are tough on your studs so I wouldn't do any jumping, etc.
