I love my BFG's

Woke up this morning to 16 inches of snow, and made into work with no problem at all...these tires really give a feeling of stability in the deep stuff, and actually perform well on ice too!

Me too! Leaving around 6 today so it will be dark but that shouldnt be much of a problem with the hella's on. How are you guys in the northern part of the state faring? Went to school in winchester, seems like when it did snow it got bad in a quick way!

We are not in the mountains like Winchester but we still got 18" here.

to stay on topic, we have BFG's on the wife's truck and they did great today.

Where do you have your Hella's mounted?

I have been meaning to get some pictures up...I have them mounted on a light bar from white rhino fab. Mounted on the bumper in front of the grill...works out pretty nice for me. I would like a new bumper, but am kind of waiting to see how money pans out...I will probably invest the money into a lift of some kind though...but eventually!

Love the trucks by the way, we just picked up a '10 Xterra for my wife.

Just wanted to kick in a couple of cents worth of opinion...

For AT class tires that are fully functional offroad (not excessively optimized for on-road) I think that there are really only three choices right now.

BFGoodrich AT/KO
Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac

Two of these options, I have experience with (BFG AT/KO and GY Wrangler SilentArmor).

The BFG has fully earned its very good reputation and probably should be considered the benchmark to compare to. There's something about its tread pattern that seems to find something to hook onto and pull you along. As a negative, it doesn't clear itself all that well in wet clay for example. Also, I have cut them up something awful in sharp rocks and compared to other AT Class tires I've run, they seem pretty succeptable to this.

I've recently switched to the GY SilentArmor Prograde and at this point find them to be a better match for me. Rock and dirt performance seems about equivelent to the BFG and mud clearing seems superior. So far no cuts and chunking but haven't abused them as radically as the BFGs.

2005 Xterra Offroad
2001 Frontier CC/SC/4wd (replaced this with the Xterra)

Fatter?

I just got a 2010 Equator 4x4 quad cab long bed sport.

Rancho LOADED Quicklifts, Deaver 2-leaf mini packs, and rear Rancho's go on next week.

I want this truck to be FAT!
Would rather have a 31 or 32 x 12" than a 33 x 10.
The truck has stock alloy 17's.
If I need to get new wheels I will probably get 18's or 20's.

Has anyone done this?
Tire / wheel combo suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!
William

Will nice choice of trucks. I have an 09 Equator. I am lifted and running 285/70r17(33's). Lifts and tire choices of course depend on intended use. you could run 285/75r16 on your stock rims with a meltmod if you just want the bigger tires. Also if your not offroading a lot a spacer lift is more economical. Do some research, there is a bunch more info for the Equator/Frontier platform, google is your friend

I had the BFG AT's on my xterra and loved them. However, the SUCKED on gas mileage being as heavy as they are. I just put on Goodyear wrangler TD's. I really like them so far. Deeper treads, and surprisingly quieter the the BFGs. Haven't had them off road just yet, but Im thinking they will do just fine. Since putting the goodyears on, I've gotten 2-3 more MPG. Hell of a difference in 13-14 ish, to 15-17ish.

If you do decide to go with BFGs don't let them sype the tires. This may help some with highway wear, but it really adds to the off road wear and tear. Mine started checking really badly after having them syped. The guys at the tire shop may try to tell you that it will help with traction, but I wouldn't recommend doing it.
