Tire to bed clearance - super single

I'm getting ready to mount an aluminum flatbed to my '23 F550 and wanted to see if there's a know gap requirement for the top of the tire to the bed, for a super single 41" tire. I've seen varying gaps so looking for real world experience.

Example of a brush truck with what appears to be not enough room for wheel travel/loading.

No one size fits all.

Flex it out and see. I like to keep at least 1-1/2" of clearance from everything once flexed to allow for safely running snow chains

Measure from axle to the jounce bumper, add a few inches to account for compression of the jounce bumper. That's the minimum.

You're not likely to compress all the way with articulation on the rear of a truck so making sure you have clearance for straight jounce is pretty good. Beyond that, I like to make sure that the tire rubs only the flat floor, not braces, just in case it ever goes that far...

Btw, That brush truck is probably fine if the tire fits up behind the outer rail, which is how it should be...

Here is Mitsubishi's guidance in regard to the Fuso. Most manufacturers have a Body Builder guide(s) that will address this.

If that tire tucks under the side rail, it will be fine.

Every case will be different. I made mine on the low end (7" articulated) and figure I can increase it with a lift if necessary.
