Tires

Well my 285/75R16 BFG A/T tires have to go. They are just too big. I am still experiencing rubbing when I go offroad and it has slaughtered my MPG. This truck is my daily driver and is just an every other weekend toy so MPG is a factor for me.
So...
My plan is to go back down to 265/75R16 tires but I'm not sure of what brand or tire to go with.
What does everyone suggest?

EDIT:
Something with a fair price tag is always nice too.

I have the BFG AT KO in 265/27/16 and am very pleased. I was also looking at the GY Silent Armor, and have heard great things about those as well.

255/85s are a great size tire. i don't think there is a BFG A/T in them though, but i love them on my landy. i believe i've seen them fit onto a stock toca or 4runner though.

I've thought about the 255/85 size but decided against it for two reasons.
1. I don't want to go to a 33, that's where my problem is occurring.
2. I live in Florida so most of the stuff I am on is loose sand or mushy mud.

Right off hand I have found three tires that have my interest, all in size 265/75.
1. BFG A/T
2. Nitto Terra Grappler
3. Dunlop Radial Mud Rover

I know the BFG A/T tires are great but they cost more. What about the other two?

I've Nitto TG on my truck. I like them. They ride nice on freeway and pretty quiet. Mine is load range D so I would think if you get load range C it should ride even better.

Nitto Terra Grapplers - I had a set (265/75R16 E) mounted on my '06 Tundra for a Baja trip. Couldn't beat the price. At the time I was able to buy 5 Nittos for less than 4 of the BFG's at Discount Tire in Las Vegas. I only racked up approx. 17,000 miles on them before I sold the truck - but they had nice wear qualities, good summer/winter traction, and a good ride. They held up fine for the mild off-road duty they saw.

BFG All Terrain TA KO's - I currently have these (265/75R16 D) mounted on my '98 4Runner. Mine came from Costco. They are a popular tire for a reason - they work. Summer/winter, on/off road - it's all good IMHO. I've noticed a bit of wear on the fronts lately - maybe it's time for a rotation and/or alignment. Approx 20,000 miles so far...should easily go to 40K+. I think they are louder than the Nitto's, but that may be the diff in the Tundra vs. the 4Runner.

265/75 Nitto Terra grapplers hands down. Quiet, smooth, balance easily, good value, and have worked out great on differing terrain for me. I'll also be dropping down to 265/75 from 285/75 for my next set as well and will be running grapplers again. BFG's are overrated in my opinion, I wouldn't spend the money on them.

This is great input. I've had experience with BFG A/T on two vehicles but they just cost so much, it is time to try something new. I'm really considering the Nitto TG. Does anyone have anything to say about the Dunlop Radial Mud Rover?

I have the Nitto Terra Grappler's on my Jeep and really like them. They're smooth and quiet but still work well off-road. The price was a big reason I chose them but they have not let me down.

I've also had a set of the Dunlop Rover MT's on my last Jeep about 4 years ago. They worked very well in the snow, mud and rock. They were very noisy though. The lugs are spaced quite a bit apart. I got about 30k miles out of mine.

I've heard good things about the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I'm beginning to wish I went with them myself on my 4Runner. I bit the bullet and went with the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's which have been nice, but I don't believe they are worth the hefty price tag.

My Brother in law has the Terra's on his 80 Series LC and they have handled everything he has thrown at them so far. They ride pretty well on the highway too.

If the Dunlop Mud Rover's are really that noisy and the lugs are spaced out then that would probably hurt my MPG also.
I'm thinking the Nitto Terra Grapplers are going to be what I get.
All I can find them in is Load Range E for about $155. Can anyone tell me where I can find Load Range D or C?
What's the big difference other than weight between the load ranges because I do sometimes use my Tacoma as a work vehicle.

I got my load range D Nittos from Discount Tire on Ebay. They have a large store on Ebay and often have great deals on Nittos.
