Tom Sheppard's Wrangler

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I have posted anything, but I had a question. I remember reading back in 2012? about Tom Sheppard switching to a 2door wrangler. Does anyone have any pictures, and info on his rig? I never saw a follow-up to the article, and couldn't find any info on it. I just thought it would be cool to read about what he has done, and see some pics of his newly selected adventure vehicle.

There are some few pictures of his Wrangler and mods in his expedition book. He uses BFG All-Terrain 245/75 R17 tyres. I also wait for a article

Thanks for the reply! Does he have a modified suspension or lift? What type of mods did he do? I wish we could get more info. It would be really cool to see what someone like him has done.

I only know some few things he did back in 2012, I dont know how it is today in 2014. I know he is a minimalist and he dont like roof racks so much and he brings only important things with him.

In 2012 he did not have any aftermarket bumper, winch etc or modified suspension or lift or lights etc, so it is pretty much stock and I dont think it will change much.

He covered the inside of the roof with some insulation to reduce solar heat.

Added a solar guard film on the windows

Added a tailgate table

Underbody rust treatment

Removed front passenger seat and rear seat.

Added a platform for storage, to sleep on etc

Anyway, I find it very intresting that Tom with al his 40 years of experience of expeditiontravel and that he knows so much about different 4x4 vehicles and modifications and expedition gears (You realise that when You read his books) he choose a 2 door Wrangler and it is mostly stock and he have very little gears with him.

I'm curious to know what he did to the computer controlled CRD to feel it would be reliable enough, and tolerate bad diesel well enough.
