I have the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS.

I really like it. The screen on the back is great so I don't even worry that it doesn't have an optical viewfinder. It is about the size of a deck of cards. Easily slips into a pocket. The wide angle is very nice in the outdoors. I would recommend it.

I have the same camera and would also recommend it. Nice wide angle, takes a ton of shots on a single charge (200+) and it does timelapses!

Funny thing about that, I don't know a dang thing about Nikon's pocket cameras. I've just been lusting after that G7, then G9...now wondering if I ought to wait for that soon-to-be-released G10.

Too many cameras to worry about. Now I learn my 39mp Hassy is obsolete. 50mp! Wow!
50mp is so yesterday. How about that new 60mp back from Phase One? As for P&S cams, that mysterious Nikon P6000 sounds promising.

Canon A-series cameras are nice because they take standard AA batteries and record some pretty good images. One of the reasons I like Canon over some of the other brands is the shutter lag is minimized (time to actually take the picture after you press the magic button) - more like a film camera.
$149 will pick up a nice A-series. If you want to spend more you can look at the G9 (or pick up a nice used G5 like I did for $150 off craigslist)

By the way its spelled "surprised"...

Yeah, the Canon G9/Nikon P6000 platforms do seem interesting, but are a bit bigger than a true pocket camera, at least during the summer months.

The 870 looks interesting, and small enough to take everywhere. Thanks for the input, guys. I'll have to see who has deals going this coming weekend; who knows, I might have a new camera come next week!
