Towing with a YJ

I’m thinking about pulling a small camping trailer with my YJ. I’m a little concerned about the bumper to frame connection. The rear bumper is only held on with 8 small bolts. I do not remember what size they were but I do remember they were not very big. When I bought the jeep, the rear bumper was already angled down quite a bit. So the previous owner had already pulled a trailer that was too heavy for the metal the bumper was bolted to. I had to remove the bumper and pound the metal back flat then bolted the bumper back on with new bolts.

Is there anyone out there pulling a trailer with their YJ and what bumper/hitch setup are you using?

I have. Many bumpers aren't rated for towing. Put a receiver on it. Think about some suspension air bags to firm things up also.

After doing some searching on the web, Warrior makes a class III hitch that bolts on in the same location as the bumperettes. This is the same way my bumper bolts on and it has a receiver in it. I guess I'm in good shape.

Thanks for the replies.
