Toyo Open Country M/T 295/70/17 on 7.5" wide rim?

It is time for me to replace my tires so I purchased a set of 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 17 x 7.5 steel wheels.
I would like to run the Toyo Open Country M/T 295/70/17 tires but I am concerned that the 7.5" wide wheel may be too narrow?

Is anyone running the Toyo Open Country M/T 295/70/17 on a 7.5" wide wheel?

Would it be ok to air these down for camping on the beach?

My truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD 4x4 so I like the Max Load rating of 3970lbs for these tires.
I am currently running a 315/75/16 which is too tall for my taste and 3.55 gears.
The Toyo Open Country M/T 295/70/17 tires are listed as having a 33.5" diameter.

Is there another tire with comparable Max Load rating but slightly smaller diameter?

From Toyo's web site a 7.5 is an approved width...

I run a MT 285/70/17 on hummer wheels, 17x8 and they are plenty wide. I think you would be fine with a 17.5, you could get some cheep CL hummer wheels..

This is what treadwright suggested for 285's (they don't sell 295's) so you would be on the narrow side but I think it would be fine.

This is close to the size you will be running . This is not a woman, could a half inch make that much difference?:coffee:

No problems, guy with lifted duallys run 35x12.5 tires on 6" wide rims routinely so your narrower tire will fit on that wider rim no issues

I ran my 285-75-17 Toyo AT's at 60-65 psi for 36K on stock rims because of the constant camper weight. I experienced premature center wear. Currently,I'm running 55# in my 285-75-17 Toyo MT's. Initially,I was concerned that the lower payload capacity(3195#) compared to my prior Toyo AT's would be a concern, but no problem. The 3195# is plenty. A 285 would be a better match for a 7.5" rim.
Airing down will not be an issue.
The new Toyo ATII will be my next tire as Toyo has not released a 285 M-55 in a 17" so far.

FWIW i'm running Nitto terra grapplers (same manufacture/same tire as Toyo AT) 285/75 17 on H2 wheels 17x8.5 IIRC

i stepped down from 35/12.5 16.5 to the Nittos and i'm very happy. Nittos calls them a 34x11.5(the stickers that were on the new tires)

The sidewalls feel very firm. i have only had them about 5k miles but they look brand new. I love the taller/narrower tire.
