Hi,

What the "experts" have to say about this small truck? Do u think that it can be a good truck to overland after some mods?

Specs from factory without mods:
engine: 3,0 D-4D
inline 4 cylinders
2982CC with 136hp at 3400rpm
Transmission it's from hilux
Max speed: 130km/h (80mph)
Suspension: Front: Doble Wishbone with torsional stabilizer bar + hydraulic
Back: Leaf springs + Hydraulic

Frame with U shape
ground clearance: 31.5cms (12.4 inches) with 235/75/r15c tires
Attack Angle: 31.50º
Departure Angle: 29º

I think this truck it's only avaible in Portugal (where the factory is), so it's dificult to find reviews and specs.
To use like overland truck i prefer single cabin, but i think that in single cabin only exists without transmission...
To me it's a slow truck but with a hard shape.... maybe i'm wrong

Any oppinions?

There is a video:

Have much respect for the Dyna. Very strong running gear and simple construction etc.

I actually made enquiries about buying one (the double cab 4x4 version as in video) here in Switzerland a few years ago. Local Toyota dealer told me they don't offer that model in their line-up and wasn't interested in arranging any special order for me. Told me if I wanted one, to go and import it myself... :Wow1: I was very surprised at the attitude as all my previous experience with Toyota has been positive.

Anyhow, service aside, I would still like the vehicle, a nice small/mid sized tough platform to develop something nice.

Your local dealer was totaly "stupid".

I realy don't know why toyota don't sell this truck outside of Portugal, even with a higher price... they make a contract with a factory to build fire-trucks and seems that for them this market is enought... so sad...

but i'm a lucky guy because i live in Portugal so it's easy 4 me to buy this truck... my only "question" is, if this can be a good decision or no.

By the way, the "new" fire-trucks are (more and less) like this:

will they survive off road? are they really meant for rough driving scenarios? :)

This is Toyota Quality :)

This truck was made for hard-work in dificult roads... like they say, it's a pick-up with high load capacity... remember that this is a truck for 3.5tons, that means that you can load almost 2 tons of "things"... in comparation hilux only can carry 0.8 tons (officialy :) ).

When they build this truck, was made thinking to make a new generation of fire trucks... compact, good capacity, excelent in mountain during a fire.
I think, they can´t put in risk human lifes, making a bad truck. In my oppinion this truck was made like millitary trucks...

Civil trucks is exacly the same, but with a box in place of the tank deposit and pumps.

I would buy it on looks alone, but I have thing for cab over trucks.

I think a cabover crew cab would be fairly easy to live with. I drove a Jeep FC170 in high school and regretted the lack of seating.

I know nothing about this truck personally, but like the idea.

I stand to be corrected, but I think the Dyna has Landcruiser wagon running gear and motor, with a full commercial vehicle chassis. So is it tough... yes. :ylsmoke:

More and Less 40.000€ taxes included, but remember that here in Portugal we have now high taxes

about youtube videos, believe me, it's very hard to find... i never see a video from the new Dyna (2011)... and the photos i had, it's from 2008 truck... the 2011 it's equal but the engine have some changes... more hp (now 136), more spead... one engineer involved in it's tests, say to me that this truck can reach 140km/h in GPS and not the official 125/130km/h... and he says that it's pure power... can climb 30º in idle position (i don't know if is this the term, but it's when you have the 1º gear, and stat drop the clutch without use the accelerator)... you can see that it's a 3.0 engine with 136hp and 300N.m. For comparation the hilux have the same engine but with 170hp and 400N.m., so hilux have more spead and Dyna more power.

It's not a Dyna, but it's more and less the same, but under the brand hiace... This model was unique, never again Toyota uses the brad hiace in a truck, only in vans...
It's from 1988 (almost 25 years ago), and from them who are asking about them capacities, watch this vids...
