Almost everything on this truck is brand new, and all the work was professionally done with no expense spared. I’ve only driven it for test drives.
I purchased this 1996 HZJ75 a few years ago as a firetruck from Japan. This was going to be my dream truck. These firetrucks are great because they have very low mileage (this one has only 7,000 miles) and as firetrucks in Japan they are maintained extremely frequently. However, they have a few quirks: a very short wheelbase and an extra-tall bubble roof to accommodate fire helmets. Fortunately, Toyota offers other versions of the 70-series trucks with longer wheelbases and flat roofs, which are common globally. I sourced brand-new parts, including a 6-foot bed and a flat roof. To accommodate the new bed, I had the wheelbase professionally extended, which also required extending the driveshaft, brake lines, and parking brake. For the roof, I also had a custom headliner made. Most of these modifications were done using OEM Toyota parts, along with the OME and Fox suspension components.
While the truck was disassembled, I coated much of the frame and other components with an industrial zinc coating. The frame was already in pristine condition with no rust, but since it was apart, I took the opportunity to strip it down to raw metal and apply the zinc coatings to prevent future corrosion. These coatings were aviation-grade epoxies and polyurethanes typically used on offshore drilling rigs and bulldozers much more durable than automotive paint. The paint job alone cost tens of thousands of dollars. I also installed sound-deadening material throughout the truck, including the roof, floor, back wall, and inside the doors.
This truck is right-hand-drive from Japan and was legally imported with a clean Montana title. It came with rear seats already installed; while these seats match the color, they’re not Toyota and show some signs of wear. This truck has one of the most reliable engines and transmissions Toyota has ever made. The engine is the 1HZ 4.2 liter inline 6 cylinder. Makes decent power. 5-speed manual and 2-speed transfer case. No a/c or power-steering but OEM Toyota versions of these can be found relatively easily.
