Trailer Axle recommendation?

I am at the very start of a trailer build/rebuild/restomod kind of thing with my Bantam TC3. I would like to pull the axle and mount an axle that has matching lug pattern to my 2005 LJ. I have read bad reviews on the axles I can pick up semi locally, from Northern Tool and Tractor Supply - saying that they are not durable and parts are hard to come by.

Can you recommend a trailer axle manufacturer and distributor? I plan to stick with leaf springs for simplicity. At least that's what I am thinking at the moment.

Thanks for the help.

I have not boiled it down yet, but from what I am reading as I research it looks like most are going with a 3500# axle in teh appropriate width for their trailer. Not sure that I need the 3500#, since the trailer only weighs about 500# unloaded, but better to go heavier I suppose. Just a bit more expensive but not enough to make a difference in the whole scheme of things.

How is the dexter working out for you? Are they considered a quality name? I see them advertised and can get what I need for a reasonable price is why I am asking.

Working out great, yes they are a quality name.

Based on advice from other ExPo members, I had DownToEarthTrailers (here's their ebay store) make my custom axle. I can't possibly rate them any higher. Service was quick, the quality was perfect, and the price was FAR below anywhere else I was able to find locally or online.
