Trailer axle using ford hub and spindle?

I want to build a axle that uses ford hub and spindles. I want the 5 on 5.5 pattern. Is there a write up on this somewhere on here? I couldn't find one using search. My thoughts are making a plate to mount the spindle to and weld a stub shaft to that, then I could lock the hubs for a parking brake. Thoughts?

My thought, but I've not done the research, is to use a 2wd Jeep front axle. You can find them around, they are just a tube with the C's on the ends. You can go from there with the hub etc. You could do the hub for a parking brake, but a cable operated drum brake would be easier since there will be a little slop in the hub splines that will allow the trailer to rock back and forth a little.

Good luck.

My dream is a steerable trailer axle to fit on the trails.
