Trailer Battery

Hello all,

I am wanting to install a deep cycle marine battery, inverter and charger / maintainer in my trailer to run some lights and a fan or heater for the tent depending on the weather while camping. My trailer has a 4 way plug now and my 2012 Tacoma has the 7 pin so I use a 7-4 adapter. The 7 pin on the truck has a pin that says it is + power and all the other connections. Can the + power pin be used to charge the battery while driving?

Sure can... Pretty simple hook-up. Just basically connect the + pin to the battery Positive terminal (preferably through a fuse), and the ground pin on the connector to the trailer ground and negative terminal. Any other questions, just ask.

Any recommendation on fuse size. I purchased a size 31 deep cycle battery. Is the power from the 7-pin charging power from the alternator?

It's typical to run 10 gauge wire back to the 7 pin. Use a breaker with a manual reset placed as close to the main battery as possible. Auto breakers can trip due to the heat under the hood. You should be able to find a medium range 30 amp breaker. Alternatively you could use a 25 - 30 amp fuse.

Finally got my battery set up installed and working. Took it the the Lonestar Jamboree over the weekend. Worked great, but could always be better. Changed out my trailer 4 pin to a 7 pin and ran the power wire to the battery from the 7 pin. I need to get a shot of the battery installed
