I'm Planning on building a 5x10 enclosed trailer. I'm trying to decide whether or not to taper the rear for departure angle. Any input appreciated!

1. Where will you be dragging it? I figure there's no other reason to taper under the rear than more rugged terrain. If your average destination requires it, then go for it.

2. You really have TVan-sized chubby, don't you?

1. Unknown terrain, all over the country I hope! I figure maybe better to do it than not and regret it... not sure though if there are any negatives to doing it...

2. not sure :ylsmoke:

The way I see it, no need to go any greater than your tow rig.

Well at least nothing too much greater.

My thoughts on it. Harder to manage the space at an angle.
Personally, I'd build it non-tapered and ensure it can take a few drags over rocks. It's not as heavy as a TV, so it won't take as much to armor it.

That being said, it does look pretty cool.

Yep, cool is cool, my build will pretty much match the departure angle of my van, not great but not bad and it may be worse because the trailer will be nothing but steel at the tail underneath. I really doubt I ever go over any drop off that will bang up box steel, all it does is it makes a loud noise. I won't have our best china or nitro in the trailer, everything should be able to take a few jolts.

2X on the space usage, it sure is hard to build around a 45+ degree angle on the aft end. But good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)
