trailer doors

So I've seen lots of different variations but whats the best way to build doors and have a good weather seal? I've got most of my trailer build planned out but that's the one thing I'm still not sure about. Any advice welcomed!! TIA

weather stripping like a car door. Thats how my conqueror seems to be set up. No dust and no leaks.

but do the doors just overlap the side panels or are the flush when closed?? i understand the weather stripping part just the actual main design of how the doors fit...

My only opinion is particularly on a vintage trailer, I would build your lid first and see how well it works/easy it is to open. If it's easy then I wouldn't bother with any doors. I took this method and was the biggest regret I had, personally, because real world sealing of it with weather stripping was actually the most difficult aspect for me, personally.

You can see here that the doors close flush, they rest on a lip inside that has the weather stripping on it

If you look close you can see the lip that the weather stripping is on.

Hope that helps

thanks.. yea that does give me some ideas to work with.. i assume the latching mechanism keeps the door pulled tight against the weatherstripping?

Mines a home made with diferent door detail

the door frame is 1" tubing the inner lip is 1/2" strip or angle, the doors are flush to the outside, the lip was offset by 3mm or 1/8" approx and a 6mm foam seal used all the way arround.

I used car latches as i did not want any visable locks and hasps hanging everywhere.

These are set up with car solenoids and open with buttons

your solution to locking the doors is genius. Do you mind sharing where you got the latches and hooked up the solenoids?

thanks for the pics and ideas guys! i think i've got the seal part figured out now. just gotta find a latch style that i like.

UK4X4 - great idea with the car door latches. seems like thats a great bit of extra security being as though most wouldn't even be able to figure out how to open them. i think i'll just stick with more traditional latches though.

Here's the whole build thread, I got a bit carried away on the tech side

I was hiding in the garage while the wife was being pregnant indoors !

Security was one of my concerns, and the clean look I love.

Mind you if I ever loose the keys I'll need a grinder or a jigsaw to get in !

not sure if the links are on the post.

I like the clean look as well. I was considering doing a keypad entry to activate the solenoids with a keyed switch for backup incase the keypad ever flakes out.
