Well, I've been lurking here for about a year and I have made a few posts. But the Kool Aid finally took effect. Look what followed me home today!!!

The seller said it was a Vietnam era M416, but all of tha data plates have been removed

The Lunette is still there, the landing leg is good and the parking brake works

The lights have already been converted to 12 volt and rust is very minimal, pretty much just surface rust. The XJ is on 32x11.5 tires and a 3.5" rubicon express lift. The trailer looks pretty level right now so i might not bother with a spring over

someone added a pair of army radio boxes on the rear and there are 3 jerry can racks bolted to the back.

Looks like I have officially joined the cult.

Does anyone have a list of links for trailer accessories? I'm looking for a cnvas cover now. Then I'll really get started.

Yup, M416 alright. Great find and best of luck to you. If you want to see a M416 built to full expedition potential check "Exiled's" on IH8MUD:Wow1:

Well i spent the last couple of months using the trailer to get fire wood. Now that i'm done hauling wood it's time to start the modifications.

I took the tub off the frame this weekend and started sand blasting. First step will be paint to match the Jeep, then a rack of some sort. I think someone had some type of rack on it before judging by all the holes drilled in the bed. The poor thing looks like swiss cheese.

So far all the rust is surface only. Pics to follow soon.

Nice trailer. Haha you'll find the trailer works for a good play pen for the kids lol. Mine climb up in to play them selves and enjoy staying in it. Keeps them busy for hours lol.

Yeah, my kids think it's the greatest thing ever. now that it is just a tub on blocks they call it their boat.

Anyways, here are a few pics or the tear down process.

Frame stuffed in my garage full-o-crap

There is a lot of what i think is original paint left on the frame

The bottom of the tub has some sort of undercoating on it. It's peeling off but most of the metal is clean underneath

Underside of the fenders looks pretty good too

Drain plugs still work, need to be cleaned up a bit

This is about as the rust in the tub gets

Where i'll be going with the paint job, frame and fenders in flat black, outside of tub in greay, inside, bed rails and underneath with something like herculiner.

I will be posting progress and begging advice as i go. after I get the painting finished i plan to fab some sort of basket rack for it. Hopefully i'll be done by spring.

I took the springs, axle and tongue off yesterday so i could start sanding and painting the frame and i discovered some damage.

The top leaf on one spring is broken right where it raps around the rear shackle. The shackle was just "floating" inside the loop on the second leaf.

Does anyone know where I can sourse a replacement leaf and shackle?

I'm probably wrong but I think all the suspension items are the same as on M38 jeeps, which means they're the same as CJ-3's?

i used a set of lifted (1.5" i think) front leaves for a 50's era CJ3B and a set of upgraded shackles (to ditch the weaker C shackle design) on my M416.

Those radio boxes are cool, a great place to store a muddy tow strap or tools you want to have access too without much effort ie a jack. Any pics of the inside of those boxes?

Roadkill, Could you post a pic of that setup?

these are the only pics I have already hosted. I'm using a 3500 lb axle (Dexter I think), new Rancho lift springs for the front of a CJ3b and a plate style shackle I ordered from Bob Supplee, and home built fenders that are wider and mounted higher than stock to allow more clearance. both jeep and trailer are on identical rims and 33 12.50s.
