Trailer Jack Swivel Mod

Nicely done!

Thank you. It worked out very nicely. Thanks for your references to the part numbers they were very helpful and saved time money and a lot of effort. That style jack came already drilled from Bull Dog with a 1/2" hole at the bottom the adapter plate had a 7/16" hole so I drilled it out to a 1/2" hole to match the jack post connected the two with a universal 1/2" X 3" Clevis pin to minimize any slop between the adapter plate and the jack post. The diametrical clearance between the two is still probably 0.040" which I cant really help much unless I get the adapter plate welded to the jack post or wrap shim stock around the jack post and then slide the adapter plate over the shim stock and drill the holes through the shim stock. heres the Etrailer part # for that Bull Dog jack https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Jack/Bulldog/BD1541150301.html and I used 7/16" x 1" bolts with flat washers and Nyloc self locking nuts all Cadmium plated steel Grade 8 to bolt the swivel caster to the adapter plate.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery! I have to thank Martin and crew at AT Trailers for having one on Paul May's Horizon. That's where I 'borrowed' the idea!

I did notice your bulldog was already open and predrilled in your pic.

Yes it was already cut and drilled which was nice but seemed a little pricey compared to some other jacks of its size. The AT style is what I was going for but couldn't shell out that many bones for theirs. I might have a little over 100 bucks in the whole jack and didn't even have to get out my angle grinder to cut anything, just a drill to make the holes bigger on the adapter plate. Also if any one was wondering the jack post on that particular jack I have now actually swivels too so ultimately didn't really need a swivel caster. A regular non-swivel wheel would have worked.

AT is currently prototyping a swivel tongue jack. So far it's all looking good and we should be in production soon. Here is a video of the prototype from our Facebook page

I've seen that vid on facebook a while back. It looks like the extra long wheel bracket makes it so the wheel can be taller and two different sizes as well without adding as much height as the other generic swivel wheels. Nice job.

Chris, we have the swivel and the bracket worked ot and ready to go. I'm working on a source for tires and mini axles. These little wheels, tires, and axles are quite a learning experience.
