Trailer light problems

I’m in the wiring phase of my trailer build. All lights are LED. I have side running lights that also function as turn signals. Everything works as advertised except when I apply the brakes the side running lights illuminate. My brake lights have a dim and bright mode built in to function like a dual element bulb. The running lights also have a similar function.
What am I missing here? How do I prevent the side running lights from illuminating when the brakes are applied?
The attached photos are the two lights I have wired up.

Go back and check the wiring. I can't see how having extra braking illumination a determent. Since the running lights have a dual filament that might be their function. How do the blinkers work?

I just bought a new equipment trailer that does the same thing. I’ve checked it all over and everything is correct. Additionally my truck runs a light test every time I hook up and it finds no faults.

Almost always!! This is poor ground connection. Most trailer light fixtures grouto the trailer at the bolt that holds the fixture on the trailer.
I had one trailer that was a constant issue with this exact behavior. I ended up running a ground wire around and running a tail under each mounting bolt that was the ground for the fixture, then bolting it to the tongue with a clean connection. Had the best lights after doing that no more issues?

Blinkers work normally. Hazards work normally. Every light functions as it’s supposed to with the exception of the brake lights. I think I wired up the running lights as brake lights of sorts. I may leave it alone and enjoy the extra illumination when braking.

I didn’t run a ground through the trailer or frame. I wired up all the lights with a common ground back to the 7 pin connection box. All wire is brand new copper with good terminal ends.

Did you use a trailer junction box?

If so, you may have 2 terminals or wires touching, or you may have landed the side markers on the brake terminal instead of the headlight terminal.

If you have a 4 wire plug, the signal/brake lights use the same wire. To separate brake/turn you need a 5th wire to separate the functions.... same if you had amber signals as in Europe.

It's difficult to diagnose the issue without being able to see it in person, but it sounds like the running lights might be too intertwined with the brake lights - they might be connected in a way that they both activate when you hit the brakes. I would suggest looking into the wiring diagram of your lights to make sure that the brake lights and running lights are wired independently of each other. Or, you may need to select a set of quality marker lights for your trailer. It could also be a problem with the switch, so that's worth checking too.
