Trailer or large overland vehicle

Curious what everyone's preference is when it comes to a longer term (2 weeks to multiple years) expedition setup is. A camper trailer, or a dedicated expedition vehicle? More towards the, roads less traveled, type of expeditions.

My wife and I do 3 weeks in a super duty every year and 1 week every month. It is not lavishly set up but we like it. You should keep in mind every one needs or wants some thing different. We as a couple have lived 2 years in a 26 foot pull behind camp trailer. Now we live in a 4 bed room house with 1 roommate that is never there and long to be back in our trailer.
