Trailer Roof Replacement - Rubber

Good Afternoon All,

Need some tips, advise and direction for how-to and materials to use.
I just picked up a 2006 Keystone NRG Toy Box. To pull behind the Truck and FWC to haul our toys and use as a base camp. I will be doing some modifications to suspension and tongue and a few other areas. BUT.... the roof is in need of replacement ASAP. I have modified and rebuilt a few things in past. Remodeled my FWC Grandby and built own truck bed. But i have never tackled a re roof. It has worn down to a heavy black leopard spotting, no peeling yet but will start soon. had to jerry-rig seal the roof seem edging for now.

I am hoping for some good technical advice and direction, both material and how-to. Id like to do this immediately. I have gotten a verbal quote from an rv reroof co in orange county ca. and there starting price was $3000. Way way way out of my budget. So ill have to tackle by myself.

Thank you in advance
Shanz

I helped a buddy of mine with his 21" trailer after receiving a quote of $2500 from a repair facility, He bought the Dicor rubber roof and associated products on Amazon, I don't know exactly what he spent but it was hundreds of dollars and not thousands. We had it finished in a matter of hours. YouTube is your friend and good luck! :sombrero:

Roof

I will be watching this one - This summer I will be doing it to my trailer - My guess is that I will also be replacing some plywood under the EDMP. The roof feels like sponge under the membrane. Their are some decent videos on you tube showing the process. My guess is that you will spend about $500 on the membrane, adheasive, and lap caulk. In addition, I will be replacing vent caps, vents, refrigerator vent, while I am doing it. The A/C unit is a two person job to remove due to weight. My quote was 5k, way more than I bought the trailer for. My guess is that I will be into it for $1K.

That's what I know.

th

scrub and blast the roof clean, make sure it's completely dry, roll that stuff on, forget about the problem for years. ~$100.

If you really want to get fancy and spend a lot of money, you'll use a membrane.

eta - if that's mold and not revealed underlayer, you'll want to scrub it with a stiff brush and some bleach water. let it soak before you wash it clean.

... and talk to pappawheely about the insulation properties of a glass bead additive.

Thank you for the replies so far. I have been watching some youtube for ideas. Havent made a decision on which way to go yet. I will be going up this morning to do a better detailed inspection to determine if i should use a roll-on application or if i need a full replacement. Im thinking if original is not peeling/lifting anywhere and the roof structure seems to be intact, a detailed removal and cleaning of all chalking on roof components and the 4 edges, i will try the roll-on. I will be replacing the 3 vents with new Fan-Tastic 1250 vents or similar, and will lift and reseal AC. Need to replace the ladder and the pipe vent caps (not sure how yet). and most likely remove and reseal side and end edge. Gotta find a distributor for edge caps and tracks and ladder.
If there is membrane lifting or structure / rot damage, it will all come off. Also have to determine if existing membrane is EPDM or TPO.

its the black base layer of the membrane i believe. leading me to think its an EPDM and not TPO
