Transmission Issue

Hey everyone. I hope that all are doing well. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or can give advice on it. My 93 Suburban with a 4L60E trans started very hard shifting from 1st to 2nd. There is no slippage and occasionally will shift a bit harder from 2-3. I have changed out the TPS but it did not make a difference. Does this mean I am looking at a new trans??

Are you getting any CEL? My 1997 Yukon was going into limp mode and was slipping and going directly from 1st to 3rd, after some research I found a very common GM recall on the ignition switch causing my problem. My "in this gear" indicator would go dark and if I cleared my codes they would be fine for a while. Rockauto.com had the switch for $150 and the local GM dealer had never sold one...their's was $325 so go figure.

If you have true slippage you should have dark or burnt smelling trans fluid.

More info would be helpfull in a blind diagnosis.

No codes at all. And the fluid even when I changed it was not burnt, and it does not smell not nor is there any shavings noted in there and the level stays right where it should be. I have not noticed any slipping and all gears pull great. The only issue it the hard shifts.

I had mine do a slow acceleration after backing out of driveway, then hard shift and it felt like it was in the wrong gear. Strange, looked down at guages and turned around to my house, about two blocks total. Now that I think about it I can't remember if I was actually getting CEL....I have a scanner so I checked it and did have a code, can't remember what it was now, after I cleared the code it was fine for some time. It did it a few more times and so I ordered the ignition switch from my googeling. I also had my door is open and key is in the ignition beep happen when I turned left sometimes, but intermittantly. I kept the ignition switch in the back of truck for 3-4 months before it did either symptom again, at which point I took the time to change the switch.

How long have you had the truck? I ask because the reason the ignition switch fails commonly is people and their huge key collections pull on the tumbler cylinder and cause problems. The transmission cares what the gear selector and the ignition are doing and if either one of them give an odd signal the trans will go into limp mode which as strange is it is, is hard shifts....so that the clutches get enough pressure to engage while you limp the sucker home.

I would suggest an OBD scanner.

Are there any other non-related quirks with the truck?
