TRD supercharger and Safari Snorkel... a good combination?

Does anyone out there have a Taco or a Runner with a TRD supercharger and a Safari Snorkel? I don't see any reason why it wouldn't make sense, but thought I'd throw it out there and see.

I have yet to get the new Taco, but I've been stashing parts away for a while, and the opportunity to get a TRD supercharger on the cheap has just come up. I'm planning on installing a Safari Snorkel on the new rig as well, and would like to make sure that there's no conflicts with the two parts.

Any thoughts?

Seems like there was a guy on here with a yellow FJC that had a snorkel and a SC - or maybe it was a snorkel and a CAI?

shouldnt be a problem, just going to be pulling the air directly from the snorkel, inless you install some sort of deckplate that seals up from the airbox. but i have no idea what taco you have, if its a 1st gen taco or a 2nd gen taco.

Expo member LAW, has a supercharged '03 Tacoma with a snorkel.

Rob Perin - Watrd, a longtime member on Yotatech.com and one time cover-boy on Toyota 4WD Owner magazine has a SC'd '01 3.4ltr and a snorkel, among about a hundred other mods.

There are other members on Yotatech and perhaps UltimateYota.com who probably have a SC and snorkel. I can't recall any others specifically at the moment...

I'm sure the charger will like pulling in the colder air. My intake temps were around 10 degrees cooler than a truck with the regular elbow installed (both running scanguages.)

The only reason I haven't added a snorkel, yet, is because it's always lower on the list of priorities when I have the money.

For Tacomas and more specifically Supercharged Tacomas the snorkel is pretty much a "poor man's Ram-Air". It's actually a good thing. Besides taking the air from up high where there's less dirt/debris, the guys that run snorkels have shown cooler intake air temps. It may not be "forcing" the air due to restrictions on the bends but it is introducing cooler air than what enters through the grill.

As I said - this is on my to-do list. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. If you know who ******** Foster is - he runs a Snorkel and Supercharger.

I guess I could have elaborated a bit on my reply last night (it was late :D).

I've had the snorkel on my SC'd 3.4 04' Taco for ~6 months now. Zero issues. The only drawback I've experience with any of my snorkel equipped rigs, is the amoung of debris making it into the snorkel, particularly while wheeling in trees, etc. I'm talking pine needles, twigs, leaves, etc. However, its a small amount and with a good filter element its a non-issue in the end. I run the OE paper filters, change them on a regular interval and havn't had any concerns.

Right on- thanks for the input folks!

Does anyone see any issues with a SC that has about 75-100k miles on it? As stated before, the price seems to be right, but I don't want something that's going to wear out or break shortly after the purchase.

If I were buying a Supercharger with that many miles on it, I would throw a rebuild kit at it, just for the hell of it. Other than that - it should be fine.

Seems most TRD SC's need the nose drive rebuilt around 90K miles. I'm over that for miles on mine and I'm getting a slight noise from what I believe is a bearing going bad.

For rebuilding TRD SC's contact Magnuson Products -
