got this in an email today:

we have had many requests for "bigger sizes". Well we would like to officially announce that starting in August (projected) of this year we will be offering the 315/75R16, 315/70R17, and 37x12.50R16.5 in the Guard Dog tread design exclusively! Please continue to check up on our website, Facebook, or Twitter for news and updates.

Also, starting in April we now have available the 285/65R18 in the Guard Dog tread design! Our first 18" tire in a M/T tread!

the Guard Dog is the Goodyear MTR clone.

Great! I'm offically a Treadwright fan after logging a few thousand miles on mine. They truly represent an impossible to ignore option.

I'll say again that I've run three sets of treadwrights and plan to do so again, this summer, on my XJ when I get new tires...

they're awesome, and I love that I'm recycling tires that otherwise might go to waste.

there aren't enough used 255/85s out there in the first place, to even begin recapping them. it's hard enough to find them new, i can only imagine it's next to impossible to find a reliable and consistent source for used 255/85s.

i dont know the particulars but it cant be that simple, with steel plies under the thread portion the tire takes a set in its shape so i'm sure its not reliable to try to bend a small amount of steel plies to a new shape like that.

Now that's a good point and don't know how they're matching final tread shape. As I understand (can someone correct me?) is that the final shape on the radial ply (or was it bias ply?) is due in large part to the final width of the curing bladder.

That's a good point, but still, a man can dream.

255/85

I e-mailed Joel Hawkins at Treadwright as a result of this thread. He responded right away and stated that they don't have the press capacity to start making 255/85R16 at this time and that they may address it again in 2011.
