Trip with firearm

As people said, it depends on the state. I would never mention that I have a firearm. They likely aren’t pulling you over for that. If they ask, that’s a different story, but when it has nothing to do with anything, they shouldn’t and likely wouldn’t ask if you have a firearm. Their job is to investigate potential crime, presumably that you committed, so keep interactions to a minimum aside from cooperation and maybe friendliness if warranted.
