I have a 2016 F150 and use it to pull a Casita 17’ travel trailer that I use for extended trips (I’m retired) and have wanted a drawer system for my truck. While on my trips I compete in rifle matches.
After getting ideas from Expedition Portal this is the design I came up with. The drawer system will help organize and increase bed space.
The frame and drawer are 3/4” AC exterior plywood. I didn’t want to loose the 4” space two drawers would require with the added center and drawer sides, so made it with one drawer and a center divider in the drawer.
I used 1x1 square tube with roller skate bearings for slides, all joints were screwed and glued, carpet was glued to the plywood using contact cement and 1/8” x 3/4” flat aluminum on the edges, truck body latches for the drawer, box was attached using 3/8” turn buckles in the front and the factory tie down point in the rear and strips of rubber cut from a truck bed mat attached to the bottom of the frame.
I put polypropylene cutting board strips on the sides to keep the skid rails off the frame. I would have used UHMW if I could have gotten it locally. Original I was going to use piano hinges for the side wing covers, however I didn’t like it hinge pin being taller than the deck surface, so didn’t use them.
I wrapped the drawer face with aluminum diamond plate.
The 1”x1” square tube at the rear hopefully will give enough support to keep the deck flat. I need to add the tube because I don’t have support from a center divider that a two drawer system would have.
This is my first post on here, so hopefully everything goes ok.
