i've decided... going to put one of these in the rear of my 2wd tacoma. not trying to make this a dedicated wheeler... just want some assurance when i go places offroad for camping and exploring.

Same experience with mine! It excels in all conditions.I have the Eaton Detroit Truetrac in my 2000 GMC Z71 4x4 for well over a year now. But I done a total re gearing in front & rear differentials as well as the instalI of the Eaton Detroit Truetrac. I could not be any happier with the performance of it offroad as well as hwy use. Our last offroad adventure in February of this year (2025) was a wet muddy, icy trek 2\3rd's of 232 miles from start of Central Arkansas Ouachita's into Winding Stair Mountains in SE Oklahoma pulling a squaredrop camper. The Truetrac performed flawlessly in those conditions, yes as it was mention in the above post you can feel & hear it engage with a soft subtle clunk but that doesn't bother me @ all. I like the fact it engages by RPM or foot braking from a stop raising the RPM to engage. I like the idea being fully manually engaged than air lines or wire that can be snagged on a selective locker on the trail. I believe it's a under rated differential that has more positives than negatives. The mechanic that installed mine including ring gear, all the bearing, shim's & etc told me he was going to remove the lockers on his Gladiator & install the Eaton Detroit Trutrac on front & rear differentials, he was quite impressed with it.
