Truma varioheat without install?

I've been wanting a Truma varioheat and they are only available through dealers with professional install.

I am wanting to install myself and seeing if anyone knew of a way to acquire one without professional install in the USA?

Thanks!

I have one and it’s a PITA to find parts or the heaters in the US. There’s a lot of van upfit companies in the UK that sell these directly, and you likely could get one shipped if you want to go through all that.

My Truma was bought/installed through AT Overland and I was able to get some ducting from Mario there. Maybe you could talk him into selling you a heater, but guessing his dealer agreement precludes that.

In the process of trying to find the duct hose I talked to a Truma rep, I learned they are really reducing their US footprint except for through dealers, including their former mobile factory techs.

The Truma CS rep turned me onto a guy who was one of their mobile technicians. The former tech is named Pete and he’s in Phoenix. I spoke with him a couple of times and he’s a good guy who is trying to make a living as an independent Truma tech. He’s very knowledgable and Truma factory trained in Germany. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him. He told me he has parts, and it’s possible he could source a heater for you. His number is (480) 338-5836‬. He gave me permission to post this up and he’d be happy to have you contact him.

All that said, I love the heater once I figured out a couple of quirks. Heats well, sips propane and electricity and is reliable. There are two versions the Vario Comfort and the Vario Eco. The Comfort is 3 speeds with higher BTU’s and the Eco is 2 speeds and lower BTU’s. I find the comfort often hits it’s over temp shut off, which is only temporary, but causes a cool down cycle before it goes back to heating . Not a big deal, but for my Ovrlnd and in milder temps, where I’d still like heat (high 30s low 40s at night) the Comfort might be too much. In Colorado, maybe it’s just right?

Hope this helps!
