They will spend a lot on the new design so they don't have to change it for 13 years ?

My buddy bought a 18' F150 with 5.0 the same week I bought my Tundra. I was a little jealous at first. His just spent a week in the shop because of a timing chain rattle. They didn't fix it. Now he's the jealous one!

Based on the 3rd gen Tacoma I'm not optimistic about the new Tundra.

The Tacoma at least is fairly easy to "fix". I'd be more concerned about them screwing up a hybrid drivetrain... like the one in the Lexus.

Actually I don't care as I expect the truck I have to outlast me...

I'm dad has a RX 450h with almost 250k miles on it. The most expensive repair he's had was a head gasket at 221k miles.

And they could read this thread and conclude “the best part of our truck is that it’s 12 years old”

Nostalgia sells.... Just not in recors numbers...haha.

Of course. And I am not even suggesting it is a good thing. Toyota has to somehow improve the MPG of Tundra. A Ford HD 6.2 makes the same mpg... for god sake.
The most of the website is full with this information. The same happened with the tacoma. it was the rumors regarding the engine that came to be true.
i mean they really dont get that bad mileage. I have one and I avg 15 in mixed driving and on the highway on long trips have seen 18-19 hand calculated

This is an vehicle expedition forum though. Throw on some AT tires and load a 5.7 Tundra with 1200lbs of people, mods, water and gear and enjoy 14mpg highway, down wind. LoL.

I know i harp on towing performance, because for me this is a big selling point for a 1/2 Ton truck. I’ll be purchasing a reasonably sized travel trailer soon. Lets say i'm compelled to upgrade to a more stable and efficient tow vehicle... From what i’ve seen - from a fuel performance standpoint - there’s no good reason for me to upgrade from the 4.7L 4runner and get into a 5.7 Tundra. Yes you get more passing power and payload in a 5.7 Tundra but that’s about it as far as towing goes. You’re still looking for a gas station every 190 miles. With a travel trailer 8’ wide, 10' tall, 26' overall, almost 6000lbs loaded, most people report 9-10 mpg from the 5.7 in the western states. A 4.7 4runner with the same rig returns 8-9mpg.

Domestic trucks are a different story. You get plenty of passing power and the convenience of additional range. That said, I wouldn't put a Ford truck to work as a long term tow mule without a bumper-bumper warranty. Just like my GTI - I wouldn't have bought it if the dealer hadn't incorporated the 100k mile warranty. Performance + Peace of mind.

Please correct me if im wrong.

There are literailly countless Ford trucks on the road with 100,000+ miles on them that have given their owners zero issues.

I have had the 3.5 and the 5.0 in work trucks and the 2.7 in my personal truck. None of the three has ever given me a single problem.

Most Tundras come with a 38gal tank, and you can get 46gal aftermarket. 8-10mpg looks pretty normal for any truck with a gas motor. https://www.tfltruck.com/2018/06/mpg-challenge-most-efficient-truck-towing-listed-specs/

Any gas truck is going to be thirsty towing a trailer. If you want efficiency towing get a diesel. Spend up front or spend at the pump.

I'll gladly spend at the pump. The pump doesn't fail as often as diesel injector pumps. Lolz.

I just watch for stations that are easier to slide a trailer through, and never stop during busy momo hours. We could play the super easy truck stop diesel card. But only if you're familiar with that truck stop. Truck stops in the SE country don't have card readers, so you have to go inside to talk to a MORON attendant with 3 tennis balls in their mouth. And then said attendant enables the wrong pump. IMO, gas stations without card readers that force me to deal with people that qualify as ''livestock'', is completely unacceptable. Not to mention that some truck stops are for truckers only, and everyone will goes out of their way to mess with a yuppie RV'er or anyone that looks the type.

If you got kids that make a fuel stop an hour long ordeal? Then it's a wash, otherwise piss poor truckstops really eat up travel time. I usually make rest stops for wifes and kids at 1/2 tank, at a hwy rest stop or overlook. That way our fuel stops at empty, are quick and distraction free.

Then again, if my truck, trailer, camper setup, is so hard to maneuver that truck stops start to look better..............then maybe it's just a bad oversized setup. More often than not, I can get a 23' TT trough a car station without issue. As long as it's an off hour.

Actually, with a new diesel you'll pay upfront and at the pump. While they offer amazing performance, they are neigher efficient or economical.
