Tundra.... Would you switch from a new Ram Powerwagon?

So, why do those of you who own Toyotas believe in yours?

300,000 miles out of my '93 pickup, before I sold it and treated myself to a first generation Tundra. 240,000 miles and counting on the Tundra. Never a major repair required to either of them.

Also, and you didn't ask for opinions on this, but I have to say: I wouldn't brag about buying a new automobile every year. That's just throwing money away, which is definitely not something I would be proud of, even if I were rich.

To be fair, though, I've known people who got that many miles out of Dodge trucks, too.

Also, is it a questionable move to reply-with-quote to your own comment?

I have and do own a 4Runner (2007), had a 1984 pickup, 86 4x4 pickup, and a 90 extended cab 4x4. I have a new Ram CTD Laramie. I have owned a GM car (Impala) and a Sierra. The Toyota vehicles I have owned have never gone to a shop for warranty or repairs and only thing done to them was maintenance by myself. I cannot say that about any GM or Chrysler I own or have owned. My new Ram has been in the shop for a gasket and CEL now with less then 10k on the clock. Love the drive train, and if Toyota made a diesel 3/4 ton 4x4, I would have purchased one. But they don't. I shred from the Ford based on my sons experience and my bosses with his power stroke.

Interesting. You are correct indeed. I did not ask for an opinion about buying a new vehicle every year. As for "just throwing money away", you seem a bit presumptive for someone who has no understanding of motive! In fact, I would say that it is downright rude to even give an opinion on how another person chooses to spend their own money. I am not an ignorant man, nor do I owe an explanation for my actions. Bragging is not the intent here. The intent has been made clear...spelled out as it were. So, I will not tell you, or anyone else how to spend money, and you would do well not to tell me. Thank you.

and I didn't tell you how to do anything. I provided my opinion on something that you brought up, and brought up with what certainly read as an arrogant attitude.

That is exactly the type of input I am looking for. I have questioned the same thing with the Ram. I trust the mechanics pretty much, but the electronics concern me a bit. I kind of figure if it needs to go in for a "flash' or an "Update" then where will that leave me when I am hundreds of miles from a dealership? I have not had those issues with my 6.4L yet, but my 5.7L had updates all of the time, and in fact locked me out of it once. I had to walk 7 miles out to get cell reception to call roadside assistance. They ended up recalling the communication hub or whatever a couple of months after that and we had to flash and update the new trucks before selling them. So, I wondered if a Tundra might make more sense.

Willing to bet you'll find more toyotas with that many miles that are still reliable for day to day driving than you will dodge. This is coming from a former dodge fan.

Did you happen to read the quote I was responding to? I don't know what you do for a living, but how would you feel if I were to say, (whatever you do for a living) "don't know jack"? From your response I would gather you might find offense in it and respond in kind. Nobody likes to be insulted. Even car salesman. But honestly, that does not matter. I started the thread to get opinions backed by fact and compelling arguments in consideration of a decision I was going to make, and to learn more about the perspective of Tundra buyers. That is all. I did not start the thread to be insulted or berated. The opinions I welcome are those simply directed at the pros and cons of each of the vehicles. Pretty simple.

I would venture to say that you are correct. Love the Quote!

I don't have a preference in what you choose. I will say that with new trucks it is a wash. The big 3 have all come a long way as far as reliability go. Now it just comes down to preferences good luck.

This is spot on.

I've owned over 50 Toyotas. I find that most Toyota fans ignore the head gasket problems with the 22re's (I've personally done 7) and early 3rz/5vz's, frame rust, thin sheet metal, etc... in their quest to prove how reliable Toyota is. Emotions and pride get in the way of accurate assessments.

I appreciate the input. So, what about today's modern TUNDRA? Is this truck nearly as good as the Tacoma or 4Runner? I have not found as much confidence in Tundra among the people I have been dealing with.

Opposite of what I've found. Vast majority of people I talk to love their trucks.

So, this is directly from Toyota? I am kind of surprised that Tundra has not been better received here. As I said, I was very seriously considering a trade into one, but it does not seem the best choice for me. I have had no challenges with Camry nor with 4Runner nor Tacoma, but Tundra seems to be met with apprehension. Thank you for the link!
