Is the OEM exhaust stainless ?

It ia a magnetic stainless as opposed to "aircraft grade" stainless that is non magnetic. It does get a surface patina but is supposed to be rust resistant. I am not a metalurgist so I can't give you a better explanation than that. :-\

I just read the mud thread and I have this to add from some years ago I had a metallurgy class. Some stainless steel will develop surface rust but it is not the stainless steel rusting but residual rust from the rollers that left steel on the surface of the stainless steel as it was rolled out. That was ten years ago and I don't work with metal any more so I don't know.

The factory exhaust is 400 series stainless. 400 series stainless is more resistant to rust than steel but it does eventually rust through.

After reading all the posts here, I am living with it. Thought there might be something wrong which is why I posted. I trust ExPo over mud - finding a meaningful post over there has become a bit like the needle in the haystack. ExPo, so far, is still largely credible.
