Two for one accident...

First and foremost, that SUCKS! Sequence of events led to loved vehicles being wrecked - wouldn't matter totaled or not - the fact they sustained damage is sad.

Keep receipts. Prove that the value is influenced by the amount of time and money spent. Not fool proof but cannot hurt. Nearly every vehicle, actually prob all, I own is in that category. We own these vehicles because they speak to us (and not in that weird "voices in the head" way LOL - gotta keep a sense of humor). USAA is the best insurance in the world. Military connections eh?

As far as the tray back goes check out Slee's site - he has done a couple interesting 80's.

Hope this all works out.

He's most likely going to negotiate to keep the stereo gear and ARB Front Bumper/Brush Bars/Side Protection Steps from the LC80. He still had all the receipts from the OME 'heavy' suspension we installed last July and all the new brake lines/pads/etc so he'll probably get paid for that. When he finally moved the 80 into his driveway the rear end was making some funky noises and now it's slowly bleeding out through the seals. It is sad sight for sure. He doesn't want a truck (or Ute conversion) or anything with less interior space, so I've been slowly steering him in the direction of a 100 Series. For the places we go he has no need for the 80's extra offroad capability, and towing his M101A3 with the canvas top up was a chore for the tired old 1FZ. Conventional wisdom says a Hundy is in his future. Then yesterday we walked out of a restaurant and saw this...

I told him this was a sign, lol. We walked around it making critiques. Obviously we both pictured it with the OME lift and full ARB front protection like his 80 has. The cell phone pics don't show it, but all the tan-colored lower body panels are a rough-texture bed liner. We did like the smooth-painted, color-matched wheels. The vinyl wrap was a bit overdone for me, but he liked the idea over a paint job. I think the matching seat covers went over the line for both of us. Reminded me of the time we took some dentists night hunting for wild hogs and they showed up all camo'd out... right down to their socks!

Matt's house is 'just across the border' into Guadalupe county (but still within the NB city limits, wouldn't you know) and I live ********** dab in the middle of town by Landa Park. A developer turned the old historic LCRA powerplant building into an apartment complex called The Landmark. Nice place to live - http://www.landmarklofts.com/

you should buy back the LC, strip it and take it on the Maya Rally, that would be perfect....once in Mexico, they will fix this easily!

Farewell old friend...

And so we close this chapter...

...and move on. Matt's started looking at 100-Series, but he also keeps veering off-course and getting hung up on all the V8 4th-gen 4Runners and GX470s available out there. I keep telling him those won't be big enough for my needs. :ylsmoke:
We'll see what comes next.

What a sad sight. Hope things turn out well for your buddy and his quest for a Hundy.

How'bout the Stang...that one is repairable, right?

Should have told them to total the Mustang!

Hundy is where it's at if he's not getting a truck. Anything else is too weak! He won't enjoy all those 'luxuries' like push button 4x4 and whatnot. :)

I'm sorry... That looks minor to me... Does it really cost that much to fix it?

Dunno really. But there was a lot of maintenance he needed to do, a paint job was needed (that white paint was completely flat), new tires were being considered, not to mention the fact that he was looking at replacing the head on the engine... In other words, the payoff from USAA was enough to allow him to move on. If he had more garage space or time it might have been worth it to buy back the Cruiser as a project vehicle, but he's better off this way.
