So Two weeks ago, I posted up where we went remote camping in Western NC. On our way back we dropped my son off with my Mom so he could stay with her for two weeks.
Today we headed from Nashville to Black Mountain (Asheville), NC to pick him up.
When we left Nashville, Gas was sitting at $3.59/gallon, so I had half a tank and decided to wait until I got away from the city to fill up.
Around Cookville, I got gas and a coffee. When we were merging back onto I-40 East, I could see coming up fast but moving over to let me merge, a great looking built Green DII.
As he pulled along side me as I gained speed, there were plenty of waves and thumbs up. It was a spectacular DII- and looked NEW (waxed, polished up ... great clean truck).
I figured it was one of a few folks in the Cookville area that have Land Rovers and are enthusiast, until he pulled in front of me and saw the Illinois tags.
At this point, I thought, well ... I'll tag close behind him. We must have been a pretty cool site tooling down the interstate at 70-75MPH, as we were getting lots of looks from passing cars and trucks.
I tagged close for about 100 miles. When he was exiting near the Tellico Plains area, I exited too. I just had to meet the guys and get a pic.
Turns out they didn't know about Expo, so I gave him the overview. They were two Land Rover enthusiasts traveling with their sons to ride in the Tellico area, and then spend the week in Gatlinburg tooling around the Smokies.
The truck was a 2004 Green DII that the guy bought from a lady in Indiana and had 28K miles on it. She never drove it when it rained! Still had the Grease Numbers on the chassis it was so clean. This guy bought it and built it and this was one of their first long distance runs in it. They were both total land rover geeks like most of us! Guy had land rover bags, luggage, the works!
Hopefully Paul and Manaf (sorry if that is the incorrect spelling) will come on to Expo and join our great circle. And thanks for letting me caravan with you guys. Kept me awake!
Enjoy the pic!
