UJOR Axles Questions

John W

Observer
I have a 2003 E350 7.3 PSD.

The UJOR kit was installed with front/rear axles (and transmission + t-case) from a 1999 F250. :truck: (Dana 50 front and Sterling 10.5 or 10.25[?] rear)

The questions;

-What were the stock axles in the van?

-Should my van be considered rated as a 3/4 ton (E250) instead of a 1 ton (E350) now due to less GAWR?

Thanks gearheads!

I noticed you haven't gotten a response yet. You should repost this on the UJOR build thread (A sticky thread on this board) or message UJOR directly (the owner is very active on this site).

Thanks @151fab I appreciate that.
I have so many newb questions for Chris, but I don't want to hassle him.
I didn't buy the kit from him, I bought the van used with the kit installed, so I feel funny asking product support type questions.
I am surprised nobody had an answer yet though.

Maybe some higher traffic volume forums would be better.

Would be great if there was a FAQ topic/thread for UJOR.

Stock axle was a Dana 60 full or semi float. There is more to GVWR than just axles. Spring rates have just as much to do with it. A Sterling is a 1ton axle, a Dana 50 was only available in 3/4 ton rigs, but that doesn't mean your rig is now downgraded to a 3/4 ton. A UJOR kit for a 1 ton rig would have the appropriate spring rates and load capacity for your specific rig. No need to worry.

You should read the UJOR built thread front to back (206 pages at this point). Consider it a owners manual to your 4x4 system. You'll learn a ton about your van and also notice that UJOR/Chris has a great rep as a enthusiastic and humble guy that would never discriminate between a direct customer and someone who aquired his system 2nd hand. By the way, I have zero affiliation with them/Chris. I'm just a another fabricator who appreciates his work and apparent ethics.

Yep, I'm a 4x4 van newb (but not a van newb) and I've called Chris a few times with questions. He is very helpful, don't hesitate to call or pm him. Good luck!

Sorry, I missed this thread! Support from me doesn't stop if the van changes hands, we've had several do this over the years and I've helped them all out with questions & even replacement parts. Shoot me an email with any questions you may have.

I thought the Dana 50 was found under the F250 and F350. The D60 was only in the Dually F350s. In 2005(?) they switched to the D60 up front for all Super Dutys.

Like someone else said, there is more to ratings than just axles, tires and suspension being the two biggest factors. Your axles can easily handle a one ton rating.

Here's the breakdown:

99-04 DRW F350 - all D60
99-01 F250, F350 - all D50's
02-04 F250, F350 - all D60's
00-05 Excursions - all D50's

My front axle, rear axle, and transmission all came from a '99 F-250 according to the seller.

So that would be a D50 in the front and Sterling in the rear.

He swapped in the rear axle to keep all the wheels the same (8 on 170mm, I believe) without needing spacers.

I dont suppose you could update this chart with the rear axle info could you? I have '92 ambulance and I had intended on keeping the dually in the rear, but the extremely limited tire selection (height wise) has me rethinking. I want to end up with a 35"-37" tire (37"preferred) with as little lift as practical, and I don't mind massaging fenders to get there.

I've done a lot of lifts, but never a dually, and never under an ambulance so I flying on instruments at the moment. :)

Most likely a Dana 70.

Eh? You mean mine? If so I appreciate the input but that's not my question. I'm asking if he could input the rear axle info for the model yr break down he did for the front axles. In essence I'm expecting to have to dump my rear axle to get the tire options I want, but I dont want to downgrade my RAWR in the process. I'd hate to buy a set of axles from a 02-04 F250 to find out the rear is a D60, when I could have had a D70 if I'd have bought an F350 instead. Dig?

You will probably need the axle code off the donor vehicle. If you are just wanting taller tires I have a couple of suggestions. Keep the 8 x 6.5 and you can run a spacer between the dual allowing for a bigger tire. Or run H1 rims with the 37" good years. Leave the front with normal dually width and space the rear out to suit.
