Unimog Axles under my Suburban?

The Mog axles are great for what they where intended for. I think the question really is what are the requirements for your truck?
They have a lot of moving parts, remember murphy......:Mechanic:
I love my 404 off road but dont like it at all for long distance travel. Its like a VW bus on steroids. You will have higher speed with your larger engine but I think the axles would suffer premature wear as a result. The 404 was designed as big off road tractor that can be driven on the road. If what I read on other sites is correct they where intended to carry men and supplies to the front if russia ever came back into germany during the cold war.

The converted trucks on pirate are great to look at.

I say go for some Volvo portals and don't look back!

Unless your expeditions take into the heart of the Sahara or the Outback for months on end I don't see why a little custom suspension work would be an issue. Replacing one solid axle with another isn't exactly "rocket surgery".

Even so you wouldn't take any rig with fresh big mods on a lengthy overland trip with out a few through shakedown runs to work out the kinks.
