I purchased this U500 in 2014 from a mining company in Alaska. It was used to keep the road open in the winter. It had a gun mount in the back they used to shoot the sides of the mountains to create controlled avalanches. They said that it would not go into reverse sometimes. I test drove it and everything worked fine. I have owned many different unimog in the past including a U500 and thought that it was probably just a solenoid problems. Turned out that the transmission was bad so I bought a new one for Mercedes and had it installed. ($25K). The truck runs great. It has lots of hydraulics on it. It has the steering that can be switched form the left to the right. It does not have the automatic transmission you have to manually shift the electronic shifter. It has the diesel engine preheater. It has about 35K miles on it. It comes with 4 extra tires almost new, a set of internal bead locks, a Schmit 6 way front plow, and a box of filters. The snow blower is extra if you are interested in it. The bad things about this truck that I am aware of are there is a crack in the windshield, the passengers front step needs repaired there is some surface rust around the truck that should be addressed. There is some damage at the front of the cab where someone had an implement on the front and tried to raise the cab. The cab paint appears to be faded but I think that could be buffed out. The last time I drove it the light for the lockers and 4 wheel lock did not come on so I expect there is an issue with the switch, fuse or relay. I had planned to build a camper on this U500 like the previous one that I had but life got in the way. Now I am over 70 years old and having a hard time just getting into the cab. This machine needs someone who can give it a little love. Asking $65K with or without snow plow. It is located at Summit Alaska.
