Upgrading from D40 to F4/F5/F100?

I skimmed it. I'm glad people are starting to rediscover film and treating it as a different medium to digital, because the are different. I think the only people who would want to shoot with a F4 are people who never had one. F100 is a camera either for people without noses or right-eye dominant. The F5 is a sublime picture taking machine -- everything you need, nothing you don't.

I would love to shoot with a F6. The F5/F100 combo were my last straw with Nikon and I switched to Canon then. The F100 just didn't do what I needed and as hard as I tried I couldn't justify the cost of the F5. Canon made me a deal I couldn't pass up and I jumped.

The 200-400 f/4 VR was reason enough to stay with Nikon. Everything else is catching up now. I'm too heavily invested to switch. Too old too.

I couldn't agree more. I need to find time to spend with mine, my 20mm f/2.8, and several rolls of Velvia; I love that combination.
