upper control arms for montero

Does anyone know if the gen 2.5 upper arms will fit a gen 2? Need to do the upper arms on my 94 and was hoping to buy the whole assembly due to it being cheaper than buying individual parts when time is included in the equation.

Maybe. You can confirm if it's the same part number using the Mitsubishi ASA program (windows; download from mitsubishilinks.com) and entering your VIN and a 98+ VIN and comparing the resulting part numbers for the UCA.

Yes they will fit/swap. As Ray said check out ASA. You may have a problem with the lower shock bracket, but I don't think so.

When you look up you control arms in ASA you will see they are replaced with a new part number. That number is what my truck has.

Thanks for all the info!! My upper ball joints are worn out and I keep hearing a noise like a popping sound when I stop or right when I take off... Also, I guess just for peace of mind...

Once you've replaced them, be sure to lube them whenever you do an oil change since they have zirk fittings. That helps ensure their longevity.

Thanks, I do lube the ball joints but they are living at an angle that tends to preclude long life... that said I've gotten a lot of hard miles out of the ball joints.. I know I could get ball joint spacers but I'm just not sure if I trust the spacers with my 3 kids in the back

That kind of noise is not coming from ball joints. Unless they are really messed up. Those you would hear going over bumps or pot holes. Popping sounds come from worn out bushings front or rear, suspension/sway bars.

Ball joints are simple bolt-on you don't need whole control arm to replace them. Only creates more work. You would have to do alignment after that. You can check them easily too. Just jack up lower control arm to unload ball joints and check if you have any vertical movement. If none you are golden. You can replace boots if they are torn.

True ball joints are simple bolt on but I am pretty convinced that the popping sound is coming from the UCAs. Also, If I reinstall the existing alignment shims with the new UCAs the alignment "should be" pretty close I would think. However, an alignment isn't a bad thing to do from time to time.
