My wife loves to have the squirrels visit, so she has a feeder that she stocks almost daily with peanuts. Many times, we have fed them from our hands. Initially, our two cats chased them mercilessly, until they realized that no matter how close they got, the squirrels would always get away, LOL.
One of them, she called him "Little Guy", almost moved in - he was so tame. We could always recognize him because a vehicle ran over his tail and the end three inches or so, died and eventually fell off. He would eat pecans or peanuts right out of our hand any time we were around without hesitation. Little Guy would lounge around, laying spread eagle on the ground, up on a limb, or wherever, but spent emmense amounts of time at our place until one day he must have been run over, because we never saw him again.
She took a great photo of another lounger the other day that I just had to share with you all.... The second photo is of the feeder. They open the lid, remove a nut, and then hop on top of it to eat the nut, as in the third photo.
Enjoy...
