No, I haven't bought it yet.

No one has answered fundamental question: what is 160,000 miles to a 3B engine? Also, how debilitating in a 3B attached to a four-speed transmission?

I'll take a look to see whether the transmission has been swapped out...

I think you'd get more responses to a 3b technical question on Ih8Mud.com. There's a lot more 3B knowledge and information over there.

A good break in. :sombrero:

Seriously, until the big influx of JDM Cruisers here, 160,000 miles (260,000 kms) would have been considered relatively "low miles".

My BJ70 has 370,000 kms (230,000) and I would drive it across the country tomorrow (ok, maybe day after tomorrow - probably be good to change the fluids first...)

The 3B is a great engine. Built like a brick... er, outhouse.

As for the 4 speed, I have no idea how that truck would have been spec'd for Indonesia. In Canada it would have had a 5 speed, power steering, and a semi floating rear axle.

Thanks. I'll take pics of the underside today, and post them here to help me figure out what it is that I may be buying. The engine, however, is the real deal, with 3B embossed on the engine block on on the yellow sticker on the engine.

Mine has 277K on it, and no issues whatsoever. A 4 speed wouldn't be to bad, IMO, but your cruising speed would likely be about 55mph or so (100kph).

Unless that truck is 100% bondo filler, it would be in my driveway right now for their asking price. From the pics, it looks like it's in excellent condition!

The 3B is a great engine. As other have said, it's barely broken in at that mileage. Lots and lots of life left. Even with a turbo added, it has could have decades of service left.

With the 4 speed, you'll hold 100 kph but not much more for long periods of time. With the 5 speed, I was able to cruise comfortably at 110 kph on the highway.

Congratulations on your find!

There has been a BJ42 on sale here initially at 28k and now down to 22k for years. I don't think it has sold yet. I'm saving my pennies but not sure I'll make it that high, especially since I keep spending money on my 60. (Can't wait until the 12H-T is in.)

Thanks for the replies. My mechanic flaked out today so I didn't get to put it through the paces.

The transmission is four speeds forward, one speed back. Is that you what refer to as a four-speed or a five-speed transmission? No worries, I never go above 100km/hour in my present rig (D40 Navara). Not many roads here in Indonesia where you can or want to go faster than that...

...I hear you. I, too, have been keeping my eyes peeled out for an HJ61 (and a HJ47).

That's a 4 speed. Do you know if it is an h42 or an h41? The h41 has a granny first gear. The 5 speed h55 transmission has the granny first gear and an overdrive.
