Urgent need for info on '04 Titan auto trans.

I need info on the auto tranny for an '04 Titan 4x4. The truck is my Dads,with 90,000 miles on it, and the tranny is going out. The local dealership is being way less than helpful, so hopefully you some of you Nissan heads can help.

We were going to drop the pan and change filters and fluid to see what condition the tranny was in and to see how much clutch material was in the pan. When we got to the dealership to get parts, they told us there was no filter in the trans and that the scheduled tranny services that they preformed at 30 and 60 thousand miles were just a flush. I can't believe any manufacturer would produce a tranny without a filter and when asked if they could provide any specsheets, they gave the old man the runaround. But they would be more than willing to sell him a remanufactured tranny, now get this,....for only $3478.81. With sales tax $3639.00 and it would only cost $850 dollars to install it. When asked about just rebuilding it they said it would probably cost more. Time to push this POS over the hill and burn it.

Now my question for you is ; Is there a parts warehouse selling reman trannys for these Nissans where I can get a reasonable deal? Do any of you have any service manuals on these trannies? None of the tranny places I've ever dealt with handle Nissan transmissions and none of my contacts in the auto salvage business can find a used tranny, so I need some direction to be able to help my old man out.

Wow. That sucks, I feel sorry for your dad, you shouldn't have to replace a tranny at 90k.

I have no idea if there's anyone specificaly selling new tranny's, but you should look on car-part.com maybe there are some running around.

Please don't think I'm bashing Nissans but this truck has been a maintenance disaster since it was purchased. Rear went out, both front axles snapped, interior door handle linkages broke, interior plastic panel retainers sheared off, exhaust rotted off at 75,000 miles, not to mention the constant problems with the brakes. It's to bad really, my dad really likes the way it drives and such, but it's high level of upkeep is just out of line, and this truck is not used hard and is serviced regularly. It does have a heck of a stout motor in it. I hope this is not typicial for these models.

I did find a remanufactured tranny for $1495 dollars after core exchange, with a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty. It took some doing to find anybody that carried this transmission for a Titan or for anything other than a Nissan car. Is it always this difficult for you Nissan folks to find parts?

For future reference the tranny model designation for an '04 Titan 4x4 with automatic transmission is RE5R05A. I finally got someone to cough that up, the dealer sure wouldn't.

Thanks Dave. We dropped the pan on it and the tranny fluid looked good, there was no clutch material or debris in the pan. There is a filter on the valve body, its reuseable and looks like a coffee filter, again this looked good with no sign of crud on it. The old man took it to a reputable tranny shop here this morning and had them hook up their portable diagnosis comp to the Titan to see if it couple possibly be a sensor or electrical fault. Again there were no codes found. The tech then plumbed it up to their real time run anylizer and found out that the tranny is only making 30 lbs of pressure when it should be making 3 times as much. The tranny is skipping 2nd and 3rd and jumping directly into fourth. Probably the pump is gone out of it, so the end result is that there is new rebuild on the way.

have the truck scaned by an independent atra member trans shop- at times an electronic component may be the culprit and will not require a trans tear down- hard to imagine internal components and clutches wear at 90k!
