It looks much nicer than mine! Great idea on the tent lofts. I used some surplus magazine pouches, other miscellaneous repurposed pouches and an old nylon belt strung from bolt to bolt to hang them from. They do the job but they’re not that aesthetically pleasing. I might have to revisit this idea for a future upgrade. Ursa Minor is long overdue releasing a storage system for the ceiling on these tops. I knew I needed a solution the first morning I opened the hatch and my leatherman fell on my daughter downstairs.

A nylon belt is very clever! Yes, I wish that there was a great solution available straight from the factory. The entire headliner in the loft is a product idea waiting to happen. Perhaps there needs to be tens of thousands of units in the market before it really starts to make financial sense for companies to come along and start offering custom aftermarket solutions and I don't know that at the ursa minor price point that will ever happen.

Yeah anything aftermarket is going to have to come from an enthusiast for sure, there isn't much of a market. Are there any owners in the upholstery business out there who want to invest some time for very little return? I doubt it and until then your solution is the best I've seen.

Thank you - I appreciate the feedback! Being able to store little things like ear plugs, charging cords and a glasses case permanently in this area just makes so much sense! This was a pretty easy mod and it would be fun to try with some of the other ready made tent lofts on the market. That large diamond shaped one in particular looks promising (https://www.evo.com/gear-organizers/nemo-dagger-3p-loft).

Next Mod: Upgrading Loft USB Power Outlet to USB-B & USB-C
I had the loft USB power outlets installed by John in Portland last month because it wasn't included in my original build. He installed duel USB-B's on both sides which I think were units that he just happened to have on hand. These worked great and I love this addition, however I need USB-B & USB-C to accommodate the charging needs of my family. While I was browsing Amazon for a solution I found this device which also has two additional features: an ON/OFF Switch & a Voltmeter!
USB C Car Charger Socket, Qidoe 12V/24V Dual USB Outlet PD3.0 & QC3.0 Car Socket with LED Voltmeter and ON/Off Switch Fast Car Charger for Car, Boat, Marine, Bus, Truck, Golf, RV, Motorcycle - https://amzn.to/3Kzq2pc - $14.99/each (about $33 for the entire project).
The reviews are a strong 4.5 and the main criticism that it has is that it apparently has a phantom power drain ever when off. Since these are wired into the master loft switch above the rearview mirror, when it is off there is no power drain whatsoever.
They installed easily in about 15 minutes. The biggest challenging is just unthreading them and threading the new ones back up again as they are rough on the fingers, but it still went very quickly. I really like the on/off switch, the new USB-C option with a voltmeter thrown in as well - I'm a happy camper!
I should also mention that if you don't have these USB outlets upstairs it wouldn't be that difficult to drill the holes and run the wiring yourself.
If anyone out there finds an even better product that fulfills these needs, please share your discovery with us! (a metal instead of a plastic housing with the same functionality would be nice).

Great idea, I'll definitely copy it. When you say you sanded down the Kayak Tie Downs, what do you mean?

I mean that the way that the mounts came were too tall to fit on the factory Ursa minor screws on the headliner, so I sanded the mounts down from the bottom to reduce thickness and allow them to fit on the UM. Here's the pic from my original post to illustrate how I sanded them down. In the second batch I actually sanded it down even more to perhaps half the total thickness that it had when it arrived. Grittier sandpaper works best - 80 grit was the most successful for me.

I haven't taken it out since installing these. I don't think it's going to be a problem though since the plug is behind the mattress. Unlike the original, at least it has a switch to turn it off entirely.

Does anyone know when the Ursa Minor mattress covers stopped being made out of sunbrella and started to be sewn out of gray/black tweed material? @Dan Grec has sunbrella (I'm not sure what his camper numbers is?) and I have gray/black tweed (#409). My other important question is, why did Ursa Minor change the fabric? - were there any meaningful disadvantages to using sunbrella?
I'm asking because I'm going to have a custom 3.5" foam mattress made for the top and I have to choose a fabric for it. I've already templated the 4 different pieces and I've tested the top with 4" of foam and it closes just fine without bedding. If anyone else out there is interested in such a solution, send me a message as I can order in bulk.

I have 5” of foam in my mattress. I used the original mattress and then stitched two mattress toppers together for the top. To hold it all together my aunt and mother sewed me some slip covers out of full size sheets with Velcro closures so I can toss them in the washer. It all works really well and sleeps nice, even when I weighed 230. I keep a king sized comforter, top sheet, wool blanket and a microfiber blanket upstairs as well as a big pillow. It all fits!
