Ursa Minor/E-Camper Jeep Camper?

Sooo, In the back of the latest OJ there's an Ursa Minor advert that reads:

"building Honda + Jeep based pop up + fold over campers"

Going on their site I see no mention of Jeep anywhere, what gives? Anyone have the inside scoop?

Ursa Minor and AT Overland (Adventure Trailers) are working together on the Habitat.

Well that's a total bummer. I was hoping this was a new project. I had assumed all along from most of the discussions that the Habitat was exclusively an AT Flippac project with Nemo tenting.

I do find it rather bizarre that it's in the Ursa Minor ad with ZERO mention of it on their site.

Buzz kill...

It would be easy to assume that, as that is more or less how it reads. AT must be the front of the project, and Ursa Minor is playing a minor part.

It's a joint venture between Adventure Trailers, UMV, and Nemo. Each company brings to the table crucial skills.
Adventure Trailers: concept, design, prototype testing, QC, marketing and sales, tent material, storage, vehicle modifications.
UMV: Fabrication and engineering.
Nemo: Tent building.

Too Busy!

I had assumed all along from most of the discussions that the Habitat was exclusively an AT Flippac project with Nemo tenting.

AT is a ExPo vendor, we are not (as yet) so I really only comment in these threads when it concerns specific aspects of our product (or when I know Mario's at a trade show.) AT's our exclusive US distributor for our Jeep fold over camper, the approach is similar to how they work with Flip Pac.

Our camper shell is the keystone of the AT Habitat system which incorporates storage, cooking, hot water and other customizations. We designed and manufacture the shell, torsion system and the original tent. AT took the lead in marketing and in helping us test and refine the design. I work closely with AT in improving the product as they are very hands-on compared to a lot of distributors, and it's one reason we decided to work through them.

AT brought NEMO into the project as a tent supplier for the Habitat, but actually there's a lot of contributors to this project, so to add to Martyn's breakdown:

Expedition Portal Thread(s): concept
Adventure Trailers: prototype testing, QC feedback, marketing and sales, tent material, storage, vehicle modifications.
UMV: Camper and tent design, engineering & production
Nemo: Tent design/production (2012)
SoCal: flat panel design,CNC fabrication and a tooling assist

We should thank all the guys in the original thread because frankly, that's the open source approach. This is a small world so we better work together!

I do find it rather bizarre that it's in the Ursa Minor ad with ZERO mention of it on their site.

Yes, I take responsibility on that miss! The website will be getting a lot of new material on all our various Jeep projects soon. We're a small company, and about the time the ad was going out we were in the middle of reworking the #002 prototype for Outdoor Retailer, (and I have a 15 month old at home.) I flat ran out of time! San Diegians that have been in our shop have been seeing Jeep camper parts in various stages for a long time. Check the website in a couple weeks...you should see some REALLY cool Jeep stuff as we finish the prototypes. For anyone in SoCal we'll have an open house with our various campers when we get the first production unit done.

Cheers,
John

Gabe, no slight intended in regard to SoCal's contributions to this project, people seemed confused enough with the operation and adding the work you have done in designing the interior and CNC work seemed likely to muddle it more. I was trying to confine my comments to the shell and tent.

And of course there is the demand and funding generated in part by early adopters and enthusiasts plus generating a lot of input and feedback as the evolving project nears true production status. All good stuff!!!!

Whoohoo! Can't wait, John.

Whoop whoop is right! Very psyched to see what you've been working on for the Jeep. There are two ECampers in my neighborhood. They look great and the high level of finish is obvious. Imagining equally cool things coming for the Jeep.

Wade, that's correct. The early adopters help us fund the R&D needed for this project. In return you are all getting a smoking deal on the product. I think it's going to work out for all of us.
