Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

For a stock Rubicon and J30 I am sitting at about 78.5"

Thank you. I have about 83" to work with at my office garage and about another foot above that at my condo building's garage. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with John at Ursa Minor tonight discussing options and unsuccessfully convincing them to make a conversion for my 100 :D. I've recently spent about $5k on my 100 getting it just about where I want it and catching up on PM, but we are seriously underusing right now because I hate ground camping and a RTT is not an option for me with the 100 (garage height and I have nowhere to store it when I'm not using it). I'm currently pricing out a new 2015 JKUR because it seems like the 2012+ JKURs haven't really depreciated enough to convince me to buy used. Used Jeeps in Colorado hold their value phenomenally well which is great for owning but bad for buying.

We asked this question over on WF to the guys from LoD, but never got an answer. Since the J30 is 6" taller, it would be worth discussing with them first to find out.
Would be very cool if it did, because slid back it would make a nice deck. :)

Here is Chris at LOD's email address. I have found from my dealings with LOD that a phone call is the easiest way to get an answer back from them. Usually takes a little bit by email. Chris Leuck <chris@lodoffroad.com> Phone number is 765-385-0631. Hope this might help you guys.

That would be really cool - you could basically use it as an awning too!

Ah, but when you sit in the back of the wrangler your legs end up resting on the bumper which is always filthy! I had a Subaru Forester before my Element (sorry for all these non-Jeep references, I haven't bought my Jeep yet!) and it has a rear one-piece hatch and sitting in the back of that thing was never comfortable. I'd go on ski trips and try to put on my gear while sitting in the back hatch area and everything always ended up a mess. And with the much larger bumper of the Wrangler I can only imagine that problem compounded! With a tailgate there are no worries.

I'm still probably not convincing you. What I can tell you is that I have had cars both with and without a tailgate and to me there is simply no comparison.
Maybe after I get my Wrangler I'll see things your way, but I kind of doubt it. Fortunately, there are options out there to change the Wrangler to a drop-down tailgate. Some of them aren't very expensive either. I guess when the time comes I'll give it a more serious look.

The ultimate solution would be the one suggested by NWoods (above) - a Honda Ridgeline type tailgate that opens either way! Now THAT would be nice!

There's also a difference when the floor of the JK is around your waist vs that of a car where it's around your knee's. I wouldn't mind having a tailgate... but I'd much prefer having a 1 piece door (and that goes for any aux tire carrier I put on).

That's a good point, Septu. Hmmmm. The Wrangler would probably me more like a pickup tailgate than my previous cars. I gotta give this some thought. Thanks for the input!

I've read this entire thread and others recently as I'm moving forward with ordering a J30. Look back early in this thread when the new model hit.

I found positive reports on improvements for the revised model including the issues you mention.

I've read this thread more than once and missed it. Thank you.

I wonder how much the open tailgate affected the rear sag?

In the other pictures it doesn't look bad, but in the camp set up pics, it look VERY saggy.

My roommate has the same bumper. 10g of liquid and a heavy 35, when in the open position will affect things whether you like it or not. With the weight of the arm, that's around 200lbs hanging way out past the body.
