All though Toyota Canada has voided my warranty on the truck due to the supercharger install, I'm looking forward to the extra power. :Mechanic:

Good work mountainpete! I'm really dissapointed to hear that Toyota Canada is taking this approach especially since the work will be completed by Toyota trained mechanics. That's a reall bummer. :(

On the other hand, I'm sure these guys will take good care of you and your truck will be gaining some ponies....:REExeSquatsHL1:

oh yeah!

I think what it really boiled down to was I didn't get the supercharger from Toyota Canada and there all pissed off that I went to the US to get it, which saved me about 2000$. To make a story shorter, I would never buy another Toyota vehicle again nor would I recommend Toyota to anyone, but I love my Tacoma, Its the company I hate.

yeah it a Toyota Canada thing, its only discontinued in Canada for now due to a couple of engine failures during testing, but it's still available the USA and Australia, but then I thought my Tacoma was made in the US? The dealer here has told me that the engines are the same and that the only thing that might differ is the ECU programing. The dealer here also told me that the supercharger will be coming out ( Canadian Version ) in a few months.

When I was talking to the DUMB B&t&ch at Toyota Canada I ask here what where the causes of the engine failures and she couldn't tell me that, the only thing she kept repeating was that my warranty would be voided.

Oh well. If Toyota had got there crap together and had a V8 option with 300hp, I wouldn't be having this conversation.

thanks for the link, it may come in handy

No offense, but I think your being a bit rash about all this. You can't hardly expect Toyota to stand behind a product, that they know could cause warranty headaches for them. There is a reason they discontinued it and plan to re-launch it, they likely needed to tweak/modify it a bit. And to expect a gal at customer service to know why they discontinued it... ludicrous, its not her job to know why, and frankly I don't think Toyota is responsible to tell anyone either. As a corporation, they made a decision to cancel them, had you purchased it in Canada when available, I'm sure they would have taken care of you 100%. However you didn't, and judging on your responses here, I can see why they were leary at best to deal with your rig. If you went into the dealership telling them that "the DUMB B&t&ch at Toyota Canada" wouldn't tell you why Toyota made an executive decision... they were probably lying to you when they said they couldn't work on it ;)

The whole V8 conversation is null & void... "If Toyota had got there crap together and had a V8 option with 300hp"... again, no offense... but I think Toyota hit the mark with that motor ;)

All I would like is for Toyota to tell me is what the problem is with the engine failures? And what the conditions where. If they bagged on the engine for 40 hours and it blew up that I can understand, or if the started it and the crank fell out right after, ok. One of the main reason I bought the SC the states was I saved 2000$ and at that time the Canadian version of the supercharger wasn't discontinued and was available, I just wanted to save some money. I know that the Tacoma's are made in the USA, so what would be the difference with the engines other that ECU mapping.

I've done so much reading on this engine its made my eyes hurt, its a killer engine with an unloaded truck, put 800lbs of expedition gear in the box and a 2000lbs trailer and try to wheel the truck is a different story, limited power and terrible gas mileage. I'm trying to boost the HP a bit to help the truck and to help with gas mileage too ( more power not working that hard to move the truck ). Some people have said that maybe I should have bout a full size truck, well full size trucks don't fit that well into ship containers, so a Tacoma was the best choice for an expedition truck because they fill very well in a container which I need for my trip to Australia.

The biggest thing now is I have a dealership here willing to work with me and help me out and from what I've heard this dealership does very good work and stands behind what they do. Right now I'm pretty happy about getting the extra HP I need. Yes I may have been a bit rash, but thats me.

Also I didn't ( If you went into the dealership telling them that "the DUMB B&t&ch at Toyota Canada" wouldn't tell you why Toyota made an executive decision... they were probably lying to you when they said they couldn't work on it )

I was never nasty or rash on anybody I talk to at Toyota Canada or at dealerships. That I know doesn't get you anywhere. I was nice, considerate and just wanted to know why they would void my warranty with a TRD product? Your right they don't have to tell me, but a reason would be kind of nice.

I wasn't nasty to anybody ( read last post ). DUMB B&t&ch was a just a figure of speech I used, which I take back now.

Another suggestion for a mech is Pro-active in Calgary. Mike, the owner, was the hotshot mechanic at the local dealer for years before he opened his own shop a couple years ago. I think there is at least two ASE Toyota mechanics there plus the rover guys.

Fair enough. I really do understand that it's frustrating and the need to vent, though.

Thanks

The venting is pretty much over, now that I have everything in place. Chargers in the garage, a dealer looking forward and confident in doing the install. I accept the fact that if the engine blows up I won't be phoning Toyota, I'll be pulling the LS6 out of the crate for my Camaro project and doing a very big build on my truck for a few months over the winter.

Thanks for the name, I can always use great mechanics.

Did you ever tried call TRD usa and asking them for some info and why? Why would the fuel/timing map for Canadian truck be any different?

TRD USA Kicked ***! They gave the Country Hills Toyota dealership the new map program without hesitation and they thought it was great that a TRD SC was in Canada. Any help the dealership needed they got it. Country Hills said TRD USA help out allot.

The only people that really didn't help at all was TRD Canada. Which at this point I don't care. SC in and I love it.

Hats Off to TRD USA!!
